Diablo help need
#1
I have a problem that I am sure one of you guys can help with. I bought a Diablo from Steeda but it did not contain the 91 octane tune. They sent a new one (a C&L version, go figure) but it still does not have the 91 octane tune. I live in the Bahamas and it is getting a bit expensive to send back and forth. I do not have access to a dyno, so what I need to know is can anyone tell me exactly what parameters I have to change and by what value to modify the stock or the C&L tune to equal the 91 octane tune. I have no experience with tuning and I just need to get by until I can purchase the Xcal 2 from brenspeed.com.

Ok...so you have a Steeda branded Predator, correct?
I assume you do not have a CAI because you did not mention one, also correct?
What tunes does the unit have on it? Why is Steeda selling a C&L branded Predator?
Have you by chance been to the Diablo web site and looked through their software updates? They have released updates reciently for the branded Predators. Those updates will contain new tunes. I don't see the reason/need to keep sending the unit back and forth to Steeda when you can do the uploads to it yourself.
If you don't have a CAI and did not get the Predator in a package with a CAI from someone, why did you buy a "branded" CAI?

I don't have a CAI, but I plan on getting one later down the line. I sent the unit back at Steeda's instruction. I have not tried the update as i just got the tuner back last night. The first unit I bought was a Steeda, but when they sent the replacement, it was a C&L. I was in Florida last month and stopped by Steeda and decided to purchase the Diablo. I let the guy know I was only intrested in the 91 octane tune for now but would by their CAI later this year. He never told me theirs would not have the 87, 91, and 93 octane performace tunes. By the way, when I asked why they sent a C&L, they told me not to worry, it would work with their CAI .

I still question why Steeda would sell you a competetor's branded unit. That is just a little too squirley for common logic.
Go to Diablo's web site. Download their latest release for the C&L branded Predator. Install it. The performance tune on there is what you are looking for.
Now notice I did not say download the latest C&L custom tune. I said download the latest Diablo release for the C&L Predator.

I agree with you 100%. That is why I decided to just take the lose and wait on the Xcal. I learned a very good lesson on where to spend my performance mod money in the future.

Exact quote was "why would we send out a competator's branded item?"
So my suggestion to you would be if you have a paper trail of all of this, call Steeda, verify the paper trail with them, and get them to pay shipping on getting it straightened out.
My other suggestion would have been to get your Predator direct from Diablo or a Diablo distributor and not get a branded version. But it is a little too late for that.
Still just the same, you should have no problem doing the software update yourself from the files on the Diablo web site.

Absolutely Bizarre!
I ordered mine from a Steeda Distributor and they had it drop shipped directly from Diablo. It's a non-branded unit with all the tunes on it. 87-91-93 Octane Performance tunes as well as a driveability tune with no power added.
To answer the original question. What you want to do is globally retard the timing by 2% on the 93 Octane tune. If you should detect a knock, take out another 2%. That should keep you going until you get this straightened out.
The Diablo is a great tuner, I love it. But to each his own, I can understand you being leery after this wierd debacle.

I had the same problems when i first got the predator from steeda.I had to buy more stuff so i could download the latest revision for steeda on the predator web site. Also steeda doesnt have a 91 tune, just 93 CAI,(93 CAI with charge plates,Factory HP and backup. My car seems to run good but wont no till on a dyno. Also noticed a little soot buildup in the exhaust tips.

Thanks Sixty Six, a step in the right direction. Just to clarify, I don't have the 93 octane tune, but I do have a 91 octane with CAI tune. Do I make the same adjustment you recommended? I tried to load it as is under Steeda's advice but the car went into fail safe mode when I pulled off.

If you don't have access to a tuner down there, I think you may be out of luck for now.
What I would do: Tell them, no Demand that you want a Diablo branded tuner, and some credit for all the shipping costs. This is their screw up, make them fix it.

Are there enough roads in the Bahamas to justify this car? Just wondering.
