So the roads here in Indiana are beginning to thaw out and break apart like they do every year. Potholes, chuckholes, or whatever you call them are big enough to swallow your car! Yesterday I was unfortunate enough to get taken by these crappy road conditions.
I was going down my road and noticed the center was bulging up and beginning the break up in spots. I'm just cruising along on the side, avoiding from going over the center because I knew it would bottom out. Well, it got me. I was on my side and noticed a HUGE pothole ahead that wasnt there the day before. So I swerved to the center to avoid dropping in the grand canyon, and BAM....I felt it and heard a loud thud on the underside of my Mustang. I got home and looked underneath and my jaw dropped. A big piece of broken pavement hit the left side of my h-pipe right where crossover tube joins the two sides together. There is a huge dent and it bent the whole thing to the left, and you can see where it came out of the connection with the over the axle pipes.
So will having a dented pipe affect anything? It is crushed in about a 1/3 of the way and its about a 4 inch long dent. This blows...why cant these douchebags around here fix the freaking roads!

 

That sounds like driving thru downtown Fort Wayne.... the potholes are as big as Lake Michigan.......

Hard to tell what impact it will have on your car without seeing the pipe, good luck though.

 

that sucks. Same thing happens around here so I had no choice but to remove the lowering kit. The roads I travel daily are getting pretty beat up, so I figured I would raise the car back up, rather than not drive it at all.

 

i wish someone made an adjustable suspension that you could raise and lower with the push of a button, so like you could raise it while parking, driving through ****ty roads.. and lower it when on highways.

AirRide isn't exactly what i have in mind, but think Mercedes and Range Rover suspension

 

Range rover and Mercedes are on air suspension as well

 

Just as bad here in the lafayette/west lafayette area, maybe brent can help you out on buying another one. Let us know how it works out.

If you guys think that is bad...try Center City or South Philly...it's nuts. I don't think you can call these thing potholes. There more like grand canyons.

If you're really inclined - you can actually submit a claim to the juridiction that owns the road for the repair. Take photos of the area where it happened, the damage to your car and the estimate to repair. Write a nicely worded letter to the jurisdiction's risk manager and follow up.

At least where I live, they're pretty good about those things and pay up. It also gets them to fix the road at the same time so they don't get any more claims. Two birds with one stone.

 

The Pypes H-pipe does hang exceptionally low doesn't it? It def hangs lower than the stock H pipe

 

I'd bring it to a muffler shop and see if they can just cut out the bent section and bend some new pipe and weld it in, it might cost you less than $170

 

Lol....that is what I thought about. However, considering where I live...the highway department paints the names of the roads on the signs by hand, and can't even spell the names right half of the time, I doubt it would do me any good!

 

I dont think it hangs any lower than factory.....its just that I hit a piece of road that was sticking up just right to catch on the crossover tube.

Yeah, I might have to do that and have the guy weld in some new pipe when I put on my 40 series Flows.

 

Yeah, if they can't spell street names right, they probably don't have a Risk Manager either...

 

Thats what I was thinking. Juristictions here pay for bent wheels all the time.
