On Saturday evening a completely new message flashed on the display "DTI Data Fuel Err" and the engine light came on. I shut the engine off and restarted the mustang, the message went off but the engine light stayed on.

I had the mustang at the dealership this morning and the result is as follows;

19951 Fuel sendor open circuit intermitent verified customer concern, found CEL light on hooked up WDS and performed KOEO and KOER, found code P0463, continuous memory code performed self tests on IC. Found Code B1202. Performed PIN Tests as per shop manual, found fuel sendor intermitently opened circuit. Ordered sendor from Elroy, Bramalea, Ontario Stock. CD 7973. (spelling errors are from dealer tech.)

In a nutshell if you get this message take the mustang back to the dealership for a sendor replacement. Takes five working days for the Sendor to arrive. The only satisfaction I got today was to have the check engine light turned off.

I had that one.

P0463 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input
Description: The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the fuel level input (FLI) circuit for electrical failure. The test fails when the signal moves above the maximum allowable calibrated parameter for a specified fuel fill percentage in the fuel tank.
Possible Causes:
ยท Fuel pump (FP) module concern.
ยท Incorrectly installed fuel gauge.
ยท Damaged instrument cluster.
ยท FLI shorted to vehicle power (VPWR).
ยท Case ground (CSE GND) circuit open.
ยท Overfilled fuel tank.
ยท Damaged fuel gauge.
Diagnostic Aids: Monitor the FLI and FLI V PIDs in key on, engine running (KOER). A hard fault is indicated if the FLI PID is at 25% fill and the FLI V PID is less than 0.90 volt with a non-matching fuel gauge or the FLI PID is at 75% fill and the FLI V PID is greater than 2.45 volts with a non-matching fuel gauge.

Mine was caused by the PIE adapter. It has never come back since I removed the adapter and cleared the CEL.
