Question Curious about some tires I picked up this weekend

I have spent some money for some tires from my GT and wanted to know if these will in fact work...................

I got a pair of 285/50/18 for the rear and 255/45/18's for the front

I found these locally on Craigslist of all places and paid $200 for all 4 with the stickers on them. The seller even gave me the warranty papers for them as well.

What do'yall think of this setup?

A guy at the SCAA autocross event this weekend said the biggest he could fit was 275's but he might have been talking front only. I could swear there are people here running 285's. I know 255's will work no problem up front. That's what I'm running.

Depends what kind of tires those are. Up to 275's will fit up front so you're good there. BUT if you have your car dropped 1.5" or more those rear's might not fit without rubbing around corners or over bumps. I have tires that are 28.8" overall height with a 1.5" drop and the only reason it doesn't rub is cause my suspension setup is so stiff. Mind you mine are 305's so being a 285 might be just thin enough to fit up in the wheel well.. maybe. Those tires would have an overall diameter of 29.22". I honestly didn't even know anyone made a tire with that much sidewall in 18".

I hope they fit for ya. If your car isn't dropped at all they will fit no problem. If so that's a great deal and it will give the car a badass rake.

I'm not a tire pro, but I'm running 255/35/20 up front and 295/30/20 in the rear w/ no issues and a 1.5" (FRPP) drop.

26.96" overall height in the rear. That's a LOT less than 29.22.

I'm wondering if the 285's will fit a stock rim. I'm sure they can force them on, but isn't that pushing it a little? Or do you have wider rims? Post up some pics when you get a chance, let us see how they look.

I've got 255's all around on my fanblades, but have been thinking wider tires for the back would be nice, as these don't seem to have enough grip.

The 285 in a 50-format is going to be one TALL tire out back, about 1" larger in diameter than the stocker... 285/40 is the stock diameter. Also, for general knowledge, a 285/40 on an 18x9.5" rim with a +50mm offset will fit on front, even lowered 1.25". It BARELY clears the strut housing, but fits well within the fender, even at full lock. I really don't think that the 285 will fit on a stock wheel, you really need at least 9" of rim width, and should have 9.5" width for proper fit. Not sure, but I would bet that the 285/50 on a stock wheel will look like a balloon, and handle about as well...

I would strongly recommend not mixing tire brand or tire models with in a brand. Can lead to stability problems at speed when side wall stiffness is not the same. Differential sizing front to rear has some risk of that, but brand and model change more so because of the differences in tire design and construction.

The 285's probably want a 9.5" - 10" wide wheel

I got these mounted and balanced with no issues whatsoever. I am running an 18x9.5 rim which fit very nicely. I like how to wheel wells are filled and the rake as mentioned above is simply stealth looking. I posted the above photo to show the overall width on the rear.

I'm glad you had the proper size rims! That turned out sweet!
