Considering buying a new shifter...

I have an 08 GT 5 speed and I wanted to get some opinions regarding shift kits. What's the best bang for the buck out there? I'm not too familiar with them beyond Hurst. Any suggestions?

I was very pleased with my Roush billet until I put in the 6 speed. It is for sale for $150 + shipping.

MGW is heralded by many to be the best performing shifter available while the Hurst has great old-fashioned looks. If you know a welder you can add the Hurst handle to the MGW shifter and get the best of both worlds.

Don't forget about Steeda's Tri Ax Short Throw Shifter. Here is our teaser video to give you an idea of what it is all about.

Our shifter has been involved in many races and championships.

In our 23 years of uninterrupted operation and racing, Steeda equipped cars have won more races, more championships, and set more records than ALL of our competitors combined. More than Roush, Shelby, and Saleen combined.

I ran a Pro 5.0 for a couple years and really liked the improvement over stock. However, I came across a killer deal on a like new MGW 2nd generation shifter and would recommend this one to anyone. It is worth the extra cost over others as this shifter is super smooth along with having great adjustability. Do it once with the best and call it a day

I was on the pre order list for the first gen MGW and it's been the best shifter I've ever had on any car ...

I was on the fence when I was buying a new shifter, but after hearing all the positive comments about the MGW shifter (1st & 2nd gen), I pulled the trigger...it was worth every penny!

Agreed, I have nothing but good things to say about the MGW in my car (granted its not the TR3650??????) but the shifter has been nothing but great.

The only thing that's kinda holding me back is not knowing how it feels. Any descriptions? Serious descriptions... Haha not like "it feels like boning a virgin dude" lmao.

MGW

Fully adjustable.. the throw, the height, the right to left position in the console.. you can't go wrong with one.

Like does it click into gear? Is it just really smooth? I mean I guess I wouldn't complain either way I'm just curious. Driven a hurst, which kinda clicks. Driven the Pro 5.0 and that's a real smooth feeling. More similar to which?

I'd say it's more to the smooth side of things, then the notchy / click into gear types... but in the current S197 generation I've only ever driven the stock shifter and the MGW.. so kinda limited when comparing it to another brand.

You can adjust the throw, and by the throw, the notchiness of the shifter, from very smooth to very notchy/clicky. I have mine set to the recommended setting, I think it's six turns, and it's smoother than the stock shifter, but still has a 'click' when you engage the gear. The self-centering spring is also really nice, as it'll drop to in between third and fourth gears any time the shifter is disengaged from a gear. There's very little play or wobble once in gear, and it's a much more positive feeling when you do engage the gear. There's also virtually no NVH transmitted to the car.

The only thing I'd change, and I think MGW did with the MT-82 shifters, would be to make the throw adjustable from inside the car, without getting under the car and removing the linkage bolt.

I had a Steeda Triax before I got a MGW. The Steeda one was good, the MGW is better.

I have the Steeda shift block. I was on a really tight budget at the time and it's really good for what it is. Taco Bill has a wright up on it in the how to section. I know it can't replace a full short throw shifter but I thought I would just throw it out there.
