Confused on Exhaust Terminology

I'm looking to go with Hooker LT headers, the Hooker O/R Cross-pipe and some other sort of system to finish it out. That "some other sort of system" is the part I don't under stand... Is this part called the cat-back, axel-back, or something else? Do I need a specific exhaust to go with this set-up (i.e. "Aero Chambers" kit that comes with hooker full kit). Am I missing a peice? I just want a full 2.5" stainless, mandrel-bent kit, without using the aero chamber muffler/tips.

That other system would be an axle back. "cat back" systems replace your mid pipe(s) in our case an "H" pipe and the mufflers. "Axle back" system is just the muffler replacement. So if your already replacing the H pipe then you only need the muffler/axle back.

thanks a lot for the help. would other brands align with what I have selected, so I can mix and match the axel-back?

I'm looking to go with the Hooker LTs, cross-pipe, and flowmaster CBs... Is this possible w/o having to butcher up one of the kits?

Flowmaster doesn't make a catback as far as I know...only an axle-back. Your Hookers and off-road X will bolt right up to your mid-pipe, no cutting. Hookers, off-road X, and Flowmaster mufflers should require no butchering.

I'd caution about Flowmasters and X-pipes...I think it sounds like crap - really raspy. But if that's what you want...

great... now I'm second guessing myself... Can anyone else chime in on the LTs, O/R x-pipe, flowmaster set-up? Rasp, loudness, drone, or tingling feeling factor you get when you hear this set-up?

I have no direct experience with the Flowmasters, but with LTs and O/R x-pipe, a lot of mufflers sound like crap (i.e., trumpeting). I ditched a set of LMs and Bassanis because of the embarassing trumpets. I was going to just put the stockers back on, but then I tried a set of Magnaflows, and they worked pretty well at killing the trumpets.
