Being old school, I know the old carb equipped cars had a duct that took heated air from a shroud around the exhaust manifold and put it in the air cleaner area.
With my cold air intake (JLT). do I need to do anything other than normal?
It sits in the garage and we dont get that much cold weather around here in NC. Any precautions I should know about?
Thanks

I'm no expert, but I am pretty sure electrronic fuel injection will compensate if necessary for temperature changes. If anything, you'll have a bit more power until the engine bay warms up. I would just suggest that you run the car a few minutes in the extreme cold before driving, just to let the oil circulate and prevent engine damage.

The colder the better! Think about it... I know some people think NOS acts like a super fuel of sorts. In reality it's used to super cool the air and adds o2 (Lots of science here) going into the the motor. That super cool air is alot colder than any weather you get in NC.
Don't worry about the cold... In the days of old, carberated cars used the ducted heated air to basically warm the car up quicker so that the carb as well as the ignition systems would work properly.

OMG my baby is a beast with this 20 degree weather!!! OMG I've never felt her this strong ever, even after I put the tuner and intake in the Mustang during the warm weather! She loves the COLD AIR!!

Cold air = denser air = more O2 per cubic whatever = more performance potential.
The only reason to be cautious with cold temps was already mentioned...make sure the engine/coolant/oil is up to operating temp before romping on it.

THe only difference I've really noticed in the cold is that it idles anywhere between 1500-2000 rpm until the engine is warmed up. I haven't really "romped on it" much as most of the roads are either covered in snow, salt, or ice.

When the blades of the throttle body freeze in place at WFOT you'll know it's getting air that's chilled to perfection!!!

Yes, cooler is better. Gotta love the WMS in the cool weather, no choice but to suck in cool air

The carbs had heat because they also had a venturi. As the air accellerated through the venturi, it's pressure and temperature dropped (Pv=nRT). If you had moisture in the air (aka: humidity), it could freeze up on the carb and eventually choke it off.
That's not an issue with a fuel injected engine. While we DO have a throtte body, it does not have a venturi, so the air isn't being accellerated, so it isn't cooling off. So no ice formation. (and you really have to have that pressure drop through the venturi along with the temp drop to get ice build up...).
The VERY short answer: Don't worry about it.

PV=nRT... I do believe that this is the first reference to the Ideal Gas Law I have read here at TMS. Nice!!

You can certainly feel a difference in power on these morning in the 10's & 20's. Unfortunately, traction seems to go in the crapper with it once the pavement gets cold.
And by the way, Nice Avatar Don!
