CMCC Delete Plates, What's the verdict?
CMCC Delete Plates, What's the verdict?
Is this mod worth the effort? You'd have to retune for them, and the gain might be, what, 5-6 HP? It might actually reduce your torque. I understood that the purpose of the charge motion plates was to help with low end torque.
I say they work. I installed a set before the STL dyno day. There was a mustang with the same mods as me, the only thing different was the brand of headers. He had Kooks 1 5/8 headers and I have ARH 1 5/8 headers. I have deletes and he does not.
His #'s 278.5 HP
295.8 TQ
My #'s 286 hp
307 TQ

For the money, best mod I have done.
I could feel a noticeable difference, felt no low end loss, easy install, and dyno'ed 9-7 HP higher than other members of my local mustang club who have similar mods without the plates.

I'm not quite sure what the verdict is yet ? although I have a huge interest in the delete plates ? I plan on asking Doug for his input and recommendation before making a commitment..
The new replacement intake Plenum from FAST will have the deletes biult in to it. All plastic like the stock plenum. Supposed to be work 40 hp, but of course it will require a tune since the motor and all is gone on that intake. No idea when it's coming out yet.

From what I've heard ? it won't be available for another year in fact it hasn't even been tested yet..It was on display at the SEMA show from what I understand..But it just might be worth waiting for if it's really capable of producing 40 HP.
Yeah, the guy I talked to at the booth said the one on display was "the prototype". But he didn't say anything to me about a year out. Guess we'll find out eventually.
I have to agree with 415Goose with the addition of the plates the hp gain is across the entire rpm range. Pretty impressive.
If I'm not mistaken, you remove the fuel rail and your intake manifold and unbolt the stock ones and reinstall the new ones.
I'll look for the instructions someone typed up. I know i saw them in a search last week.

got mine on the way from FRPP
for $99USD, i'm willing to try my luck, although Mustang 50 Magazine reports that it should add about 9rwhp with no low end or torque loss, unless you don't get a new tune for it, only then you'd lose an instant 22HP!
for more info check out The article on Mustnag 50 Magazine

Install is easier than it appears to be. You can leave the fuel rail plumbing intact, and just rotate the whole fuel rail assembly over to the driver side of the car, without dissonnecting the special fitting. There are Torx screws holding the stock CMCV plates to the bottom of the manifold- so have your Torx stuff ready. Be careful when installing the delete plates- the mounting holes for them provide for a lot of "wiggle room" as far as how they are positioned when in place, so check the alignment carefully between the plate, the manifold and the cyl heads, prior to tightening everything down. Watch out for grit falling into the cyl heads after removing the stock set-up. Careful cleaning is necessary here.
Good luck. Order your custom tune first!

I have an 05 automatic with Alternate Automotives C & L 93 octane tune in my car. Has anyone on this board worked with Lidio to update their tune for these. I have not call him to see if he will support this MOD. Anyone know?

I think the whole purpose behind the CMCV plates is for fuel economy, sort of like 4-bbl carburetors. If both intake ports (per cylinder) were open all the time, theoretically, there would be a lot of air going into the combustion chamber, which means more fuel to maintain 14.7:1 STOICH at idle/low TP. The CMCV would then close off 1 of the 2 intake ports, it would basically restrict some of the air for better fuel economy.
I don't think Ford would go to all the trouble and expense of researching, development, and implementing the CMCV system if it didn't serve a purpose for emissions/fuel economy.

The CMRC function is to help low-speed emissions. The plates helped my fuel economy slightly, about 1 to 2 mpg. The plates along with pullies get me almost 24 mpg highway cruising on average at 70 mph, and I have 4.10 gears.
