Clutch suggestions

Hi, I installed a Whipple last winter and think I may be making too much horsepower for my stock clutch (66,000 miles). I also have an Eaton gear driven differential, Steeda adjustable upper control arm, lower control arms and adjustable Panhard bar with Steeda Spyder 20" rims with 285/30 Nitto Sneakers. I think my clutch has reached the point where it's the weakest link. 530 crank hp and TONS of traction are causing the clutch to slip under hard acceleration.

I want to install a 6 speed tranny and 1 piece aluminum drive shaft soon and was wondering what you guys recommend for a "streetable" clutch? I don't race it so I just want a nice clutch with a as close to stock pedal as possible. Also I plan on a forged block so I can increase the boost in the future and need to take that into consideration.

Thanks in advance for your input.

All of my buddies swear by centerforce. I've driven foxbodies with em but never an S197. Dunno if there's a big difference but the ones I've driven were really nice. Still relatively soft and didn't slip, even on the bottle. I've also driven a 95 with a ram clutch, not sure what stage but it was like doing a leg press. Very firm grab though, it was either engaged or not. Not much in between.

I have the Mcleod RST, the pedals much lighter than the stock clutch. Good for up to 800hp.

This is the clutch I have the most interest in. From what little research I have invested in I am leaning towards this one. You say the pedal feels lighter than stock and it will handle 800 hp? Pretty impressive.

I have heard that about Ram. Most guys I know that have kept their Mustang long enough to change the clutch have gone with Centerforce but I think just because of the popularity. For example I have heard and uses many shifters in my day but absolutely fell in love with MGW when they first came out and will always use them now. So I'm looking for the less popular and better day to day driving clutch. Again, not sure who makes it yet but here to be schooled

Is that MGW really as amazing as everyone says it is? I'm probably gonna take out my Pro 5.0 this week and put back the stock shifter for the time being. I'm thinking about a Hurst...

The MGW is a very nice shifter, but curious why you would consider going from a Pro 5.0 to a Hurst? Both styles of the Hurst shifters are prone to rattles. I actually ran a Pro 5.0 for a couple years and swapped it out for a MGW this summer and I have zero complaints.

As for the clutch, you can't go wrong with a RST or RSX. Another more cost effective option is the Exedy Mach 500 or 600.

Well I liked the Hurst when I drove it. That was on a Challenger R/T tho... I'll have to look further in to the MGW. Pro 5.0 was definitely a mistake tho, rattles like a b@&$? and got loose after like 2 weeks.

I've been running an Exedy 500 for over a year now and it's been able to handle what I'm putting to the rear wheels with no problems ...

I have used Steeda, B&M, Hurst, Pro 5.0 and probably more over the last 25 years on my 12 different Mustangs and can honestly say MGW is by far the best one I have ever used.

It's kinda a hard thing to buy. It's not like you can feel it without installing it. I'll give the MGW a shot then. Probably after I get the Pro 5.0 sold. Cams are coming up in a couple weeks so I'll probably just rock the stock shifter for a while. Thanks for the input man.

Spec makes a clutch for every hp range. I've got a stage 3+ and it's very streetable. Seems to be doing a good job so far.

It's a little stiffer than stock , but not a lot stiffer. Nothing like the FRPP clutch I had in my 90 mustang ...
