Catted vs. Non-catted?

Looking into upgrading the exhaust flow on my GT, and I was wondering if a catted mid-pipe would deliver less power than a non-catted one? My main concern with getting cats is to have a less rambunctious sound- I would like the power benefits, but I don't want the entire planet to know
