Catch Can Questions

Who's running a catch can setup on both the passenger and driver side? Im looking to purchase a setup to run with my Whipple HO but can decide whether or not I need one side or both. Any s/c setups running both? Is it overkill to do both?

You might want to put a separator with a breather on top so you don't end up with oil residue on everything.

Yes I think its overkill. There's quite a few threads about this under "oil separators". The small tube on the passenger side appears to be to add some 'ventilation' to the crankcase while the PCV tube on the driver's side is the main culprit of blowing blow-by mist into your intake system (which bakes on everything).

A quality separator on the PCV tube is sufficient. Providing the separator does not restrict the flow, there would be no added crankcase pressure to force much blow-by thru the passenger side tube if at all.

This is true.

I think it depends on boost and how much the car is beat on. In other words how much oil is getting sucked up into that breather.

Americanmuscle.com has a good catch can. I run one one the drivers side and it catches a lot of oil. I have considered putting one on the other side. Breathers would just cause oil to get all over your engine bay.

That's a pretty crappy catch can dude. Those things have no filter media inside them, just the empty can. Far from efficient.

I setup my own Separator on my 03 using a can from Stef's Fabrication. Very well designed and no way any oil is getting past that thing. I am contemplating rigging one up for my GT500.

Moroso also makes a very solid looking car for 05 and up Mustangs:

Actually it works very well. And is has a large volume and cooling area. I was running clear tubes on it and had no oil getting past it. The clear tube were ugly especially the one comming from the cam cover (oil in it). The filter is unnessary if it's large enough to cool the blow-by.

i did the breathers. if you look on the internet you can get them at really good price and it can be cheaper then doing a catch can.

I just saw this thread. You may want to contact Jay over @ JLT and get one of his setups. Especially with your Whipple. No need to run all the long hoses. Better setup than most I have seen with the Whipple. I just installed one on the drivers side. Just buy the can itself and go buy some new fittings and use your existing hoses.

Don't bother with one on the passenger side. I put one in, it's bone dry 6 months later after I installed it.

Driver's side definitely collects oil.
