Can you put a wider tire on the stock rims?
I want a little wider tire in the rear to improve traction, ( due to forth coming SC ) but so far have not found any wheels that I like any better than the machined aluminum stock wheels. I really do not care for the wheels that are popular these days. I guess I am too old and set in my ways. I can't see spending money on wheels that I really do not like...
I actually would prefer a set of 17" Original CenterLines, ( Solid web with riviots) but they do not make one over 15...
What is the widest tire that will fit on the stock 17" Rims?
Any other ideas to improve tractsion short of street legal slicks?
Thanks in advance....

It looks like the 255/50R17 is the ticket and does not affect the speedo much. They really do improve the look of the tires...

I had a set of 275's on the rear of my 2001 GT's stock 17" rims and 255's up front. They stuck out a bit but I liked the look. They looked so good in fact, I kept the tires and will be putting them on my '05 as soon a I get her lowered before Spring rolls around.

At 3000 miles I swapped the 235/55 Pirelli's for some Fuzion 255/50's. They look great compared to the stock rubber which looked inadequate. It's amazing how such a small change in width - about 3/4" - makes such a huge difference in appearance.
I did all my mods (except for the Borlas) when I changed tires, so traction is actually more of an issue now than when stock. The Fuzion's are cheap and look good but they don't bite all that well. Maybe Santa will bring me some Nitto's!
