I have been, as of recently, pricing new cams and was wondering what I would be looking at in referance to an installation cost?

I can't give you an exact price but I use to charge $500 for camshaft installations in 4.6's in the 2v model. The big thing on these cars is you have to remove the entire front cover of the engine in order to time the camshafts. This also entails removing the power steering pump from the block or the pulley because the cover wont clear it.

Finally timing these engines, some guys use vice grips and do it the old fashion way but I hate doing that. I actually bought the ford timing tool master set, $491, that has a camshaft holding tool and turning tool for the cams. I hope it will work on the 05's as well but I doubt it. Ford loves to sell new tools too.

The best thing to say here is to goto a shop that has done this, or atleast another style 4.6/5.4 before. This engine isn't very forgiving as if the timing chains are off you just bought 24 valves. Look for a good name and also ask for references or ask at your local speed shop for good shops in your area.

Thanks, Doug.
