Calling all C&L Racer owners
have any of you replaced the filter 702-CL1 (heard it was made by S&B) with anything other than the C&L filter??
If so, what did you use?

I'll be getting a Racer next week.
I'd imagine any conical filter with the same attaching diameter should work.

Not too many replacing a filter that is good for a million miles. I have the racer too but have no need to replace the filter since it is a clean and reuse piece. I think TacoBill is right though any K&N type conical with the correct I.D. measurement and length should work.

The size of the filter can make a great difference in power. Purchase an S&B Powerstack filter, because that is what is used on the C&L intakes. www.sbfilters.com Make sure it is the same heigh, base diameter, top diameter, and inlet inside diameter. Flange length is important too because of clearance with the drivers side engine bay. Using too small a filter could put a damper in your performance. A bigger filter will not gain any more air flow on the racer pipe. Additionally, make sure the filter is not over oiled. Only a mist of oil should be used to trap the particles, and should not be able to drip at all. An over-oiled filter will actually filter less than a clean paper filter.

You could also look into the Amsoil filters, http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/eaau.aspx
They are cleanable by using shop air or a vacuum, and they use no oil. They also reportedly filter more dirt while flowing the same air as the S&B.

Yeah, I've been eyeing those Amsoil filters. Not quite sure which one would make a good replacment for a C&L.
I thought I had it figured out. Looked at the similar K&N and it looked nothing like the Amsoil. (the Amsoil site has a chart)
