CAI/tune vs cat-back: Which to install first?

I'm almost done with my appearance mods (for now ), so the next logical step is going to be cat-back exhaust and a good CAI with a flash tune. I'm wondering which one I should install first, or if it really matters? I may get headers and x-pipe sometime down the road, but for right now I'm gonna just stick with the cat-back and CAI/tune. Ultimately, I'd love to get a turbo kit as well... but that is WAY far down the road!

Anyway, just for reference, here are the CAI/tune and cat-backs I'm interested in, along with a secondary question:

CAI + tune: Tunable induction with Xcal 2 http://www.tunableinduction.com/

Cat-back: Corsa exhaust (note, I'm interested in these mainly because of the NO DRONE. Are there any other exhausts out there which do not produce any drone at a cheaper price?)

Also...what type of performance gains should I expect to see with an 87 octane flash and the above hardware?

The FRRP GTA Axle backs will give you a great sound, look and no drone. I love mine and get a lot of compliments from people with them. They will sound like stock when you first get them, but will deepen considerably over time and give you no drone. Ninosport.com has about the best price on them $279.95 and if you look around you will find an order code for TMS members that will save you more. If you call them to order you just tell them you are a member and you will get the discount. They have great customer service as well.

I would stick with an axle back setup... They cost less and you will get no performance benefit from the extra pipe you are buying with a cat back system, which leaves you with more money for other mods!

Do the cai and tune first..... it will give you better performance and response. The exhaust will give you better looks and sound, but nothing performance-wise.

I've never heard of TI CAI systems or anything about their tunes. Is there a reason why you're not considering a combo package from either Bama or Brenspeed? Both are proven combos from real people running them, not just articles from Mustang magazines.

But, to answer your question, if you want the looks & sound first, go for the over-axles. If it's 'GO' you want, get the CAI and tune. Personally, I'd just get both and be done with it!

I would have to say the CAI and tune first too. It is like driving a different car after installed. Like Bill mentioned...You might want to look into Bama or Brenspeed. They both sell great tunes.

Yeah, if you want fast, get a CAI/tune from Bamachips or Brenspeed.

If you want sound, get some GTA mufflers. Half the price and half the weight of the Corsas, still don't drone.

Thanks for this link! Definately be ordering from there later on.

To answer questions, I chose the TI CAI even before I read about it in any Mustang magazine. I had a Tunable Induction CAI on my 02 V6 Mustang, and loved it. Great materials, great looks, and a slight but noticable improvement in performance AND gas mileage. My mind was pretty much made up them if TI came out with a CAI, I'd be all over it.

Has anyone here put FRRP GTA's and Corsa's exhaust on their cars (or know someone who has the other)? From what I've read, Corsa still sounds like it would be the better value...the price just scares me.

Make that I just purchased the TI CAI with Xcal2 tunes from Brenspeed. Does the Xcal2 come with 87 octane tunes, or should I contact them for my "custom" tune (aka, 87 octane with a 93 on tap if I choose to reflash someday when gas prices go down).

Now just to save up for the exhaust! Oh and my desktop...which is going to need replacing sometime in the next year.

87'S Fine as long as you dont put the 93 tune in

i ran a 87tune with my car for about 1 month and i loves it.For some reason i decided to flash it with 93 and it was the worse thing i could have done.
