C&L Tuned 05' with MagnaFlow's
#1
Hey guys,
I dyno tuned a 05' Mustang yesterday at Walker's dynotune in Trussville, Alabama. I'm an SCT dealer www.Bamachips.com.
We did a few different runs because we wanted to see some true performance results and differences.
We started out with Run1 being a baseline with the MagnaFlow exhaust and that was it. 261rwhp and 277rwtq and a a/f of 11.5 and even lower in some spots. Unfortunatly we didn't have a completely stock run to test it from so that was our baseline.
Next we installed the C&L air intake kit, which is a little tricky at first but once you look at enough pictures and scan through the instructions you can get it easy. We made a run without any tuning just too see what we could get and how the a/f would be affected. 274rwhp and 291 rwtq but the biggy here was the a/f was WAY lean at 16-17:1 through out. It was to be expected and we weren't told to simply install it and drive away.
Either way we did a few runs afterwards and dailed in the a/f to a nice 12.8-13. and finally made 284rwhp and 292rwtq. So from the baseline we made 23rwhp and 15rwtq.
Now this is the funny part, I started adding in some spark to the combo since we had the a/f good and it didn't make anymore power, well then we find out that the customer was running 89 octane fuel. So the above numbers are only adding 3 degree's of timing to the entire curve. Anything else would net us the same results and even drop off up top showing that the knock sensor was activating.
We plan on going back to the dyno very soon with 93 fuel and I'll have an Datalogger to help scan over everything. Also, a god send while we were there but Lee of C&L actually was in town and showed up out of the blue! He helped us with the installation and gave me a few tips about the C&L and the airflow.
Thanks Lee!! To anyone, he is a super nice guy and really knows his stuff.
Here's graph made with Runviewer 7 that shows Run 1 over Run 7. THe great thing about this is that it picked up power throughout the RPM range, not just up top.
Thanks, Doug.

Thanks again for the hard work Doug. I couldn't be happier with the results. And it sure was awesome for the man himself to show up during MY C&L install and tune!! That's akin to Bill Gates showing up whilst your installing Windows on your PC!
There is a noticeable difference in the car's pick up. The torque can be felt and 3rd, 4th and 5th gears all feel crisper.
For everyone else, I would highly recommend both C&L products and contacting bamachips.com (Doug) for your tuning needs. He is quite good with the tuner and came highly recommended to me from other aquaintences. Personally, I don't think you could go wrong with this setup. C&L + SCT + Magnaflows make for a nice ride!
Now for that whipple supercharger....

The Boss Hog
Out of curiosity, does anyone know why Ford set these things up to run so rich? I wonder if that's the way they get away with 87 octane. Any ideas?
I have a good friend who is a big motor head that agrees with your assertion.
And here we are all happy about being able to run 87 on the stock and the C & L CAI and tune.
As long as we have the option to run with 87 on my C&L tune with -5 degrees of global spark reduction, I feel that I am not running rich. But now I am wondering about that as well. I will know this week when I re-dyno.

Thanks for the kind words. You can only imagine how I felt to show up out of the blue, only to find that you were testing our product at the exact time that I decided to drop by. I live about an hour and a half away, and just decided to stop in and say "hi" to Blake while I was in the area. I am very happy that you are pleased with the results. The fact that you picked up 30 HP in the upper RPM's over the stock setup WITHOUT a premium fuel tune is really hard to believe! If you guys need anything, you can give me a ring...
