I just installed the C&L intake with a custom SCT tune.

Just went out for a test run and the car actually seemed slower...... seemed to bog down from 2,500 - 4,000 rpms. After 4,000 it kicked in.

I had about 3 gallons of 87 octane left in the tank and put in 10 gallons of 93 octane, could the mix of gas be the cause of the bogging?

Or could it be a bad tune maybe?

Also, I'm having the bassini x-pipe with high flow cats put on tomorrow. I believe that the tune was written to account for the x-pipe. Could the stock cats and pipe be causing too much back pressure resulting in the bog??

Any thoughts?

Try reflashing the tune again. Maybe it didn't take for some reason.

For those who used the SCT unit, did you remove the fuses for the fuel pumps and electric fans?

I haven't heard of this yet here but it was mentioned in the instructions that came with the SCT unit.

you don't need to with this car..i can't really explain it. Doug from bamachips explained it to me on the phone. For older vehicles yes but the new mustang no due to the short duration of the transfer of the tune. just plug and tune! I have the C&L with the sct2 from doug at bamachips..night a day difference here for me..maybe it was the custom tune you got? It all depends on the person behind the tuner.

yes you shouldnt mix the gas as it screws with the ignition temp and compression. that is your problem. retune the car back to 87 and run it for a tank the way it is till its darn near empty. bring the tuner with u to a gas station, fill up the tank completely with 93 and then tune the car. drive slow for the first 10 miels or so to get the reminants of the 87 out of the fuel pump and fuel lines, and then let her rip.

But right now I basically have a tank that is about 85% 93 octane. Wouldn't it be bad to switch it back to an 87 tune?

Should I just burn through this tank and take it easy?

From what Brent told me from Brenspeed you can run an 87 tune with basically any gas.

So if you run the 87 you should be fine as far as I know.

Ok, now I have 2 error codes that just popped up. P0171 and P0174 which I researched and they were

P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)

P0174 System too Lean (Bank 2)

Do I have the abililty through the handheld tuner to add more fuel myself and fix this?

That sounds like the tune did not take. Yes you can run higher octane fuel with an 87 octane tune, but not vise-versa. I think if the fuel is the problem from what Brent told me Spark knock or detonation would accur when you get on it hard.

I wonder if the tune was written for the pipe if that could throw a lean code, I know an exhaust/egr leak threw a lean code on my97 truck.

I talked to the guy at the shop and he said that is the chance that he uploaded the wrong tune to the SCT unit. I'm heading back in this afternoon and he said that they would get it all fixed up.

And on a side note, the Bassani X-pipe ROCKS. I love that sound.

Ok, new tune uploaded. No check engine light or error codes so far.

Question though, for those who have a manual transmission and the C&L intake with the SCT2 unit, how much of a difference did you experience.

Mine is a heck of a lot louder with the Bassini x-pipe, but I don't feel that much of a difference in power? Everyone says that it's like a whole new car but I just don't feel that.

Do I just need a better tuner?

I have that setup and I noticed a very big difference from stock. It's definitely a lot quicker, and the throttle lag is gone.

Sorry....I meant to quote post #12, not this one......

Got a canned tune from Livernois Motorsports. They said it was a specific tune for the C&L set up. I just don't want to drop $300 for dyno time.

Yeah, I've heard mixed things about Livernois and was curious about this subject myself. Is there any good tuners in SE Michigan? I understand that there are many great tuners in the states (Doug for example), but I would really like to be able to go somewhere local where I can meet with the person doing it. Anyone?

Lidio at Alternative Auto is in SE Michigan I believe. There are many here who have used him mail order. I can only imagine what he can do with the car there on the dyno.

Yeah, I have recently heard about him. A lot of people say he's really good with the auto's. I'm sure he can do just as well with the manuals though
