4.6 3v is built as a N/A engine. Forged internals not included here.
Putting on a super or turbocharger is going to stress this engine in ways it wasn't designed to deal with long term. Will it hold together to it's designed service life at 6 psi? 8 psi? 10 psi?
What are the warranty implications?

Do the good times last? I'd love to hear details from people who have actually gone this route.

Tech info from people who who design and build these systems is great...objective stuff please.

I am wondering the same thing. Unfortunatly only time will tell. I am going to wait a year or two to see the ramifications before getting one myself.

With any supercharged vehicle it's about being shall we say "satisfied." If you take the standard kit's 8-9 psi and get a good conservative tune that makes good reliable power, the answer is yes. You have to run good gas and keep the fuel system maintained, along with listening and checking the plugs periodically for detonation. I've been building forced induction vehicles for 13 years and the most common mistake is greed (more boost). It's addicting and to easy sometimes. If you can be "satisfied" and maintain your vehicle you can have a nice reliable car.

Now as far as your engine warranty,etc.. forget it. It'll be over from there on.

Hope that helps.
Thanks Mike

a properly tuned 05 should be able to take 8-9lb of boost, the key is it has to be tuned by an expert not just a hand held box you buy for $200

Mustangs havent used forged pistons in the gt since 89. People cried and made predictions when we got the hypereutectic pistons in the 5.0 and the 4.6 in 96 that the era of modified mustang was over. We all now know that was false.

Can the 05 Gt take a huge supercharger and boost, no. But has any 4.6 gt ever been able to, no.

Its all about common sense and the proper tune. Its not boost (up to a moderate point) that kills an engine its factors such as a/f ratio and timing which cause detonation. Just like every 4.6 GT ford has ever made you should be safe with a moderate amount (8lbs) of boost. The paxton web site says their kit will work well on a stock 05 gt at 8.5 to 9.5lbs of boost.

We have already seen kits from vorech, paxton, and procharger released for the 05 that can be put on a stock gt and Kenne Bell has one to be released soon. Search paxtons, vortechs and other supercharegr sites for setup info. Also the latest issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords has a 4.6 3 valve paxton dyno in it.
