boom tubes and resonators

Ok I seen an ad in latest MM&FF for boom tubes for the 2005 GT mustang with and without resonators. The boom tubes look and probably are same as loudmouths but what are resonators? Looks like a glasspack mounted after the crossover pipe. Anyone know what's inside them and what do they do for sound and performance?
