today i had BMR subframes, UCA, LCAs, and panhard installed. what a difference. my car feels like a benz going over potholes in nyc now. very noticeable. it went from feeling like it had 90,000 miles on it to feeling new again. (has 34k on it) only problem is, now i got rear axle whine at like 50+, so i have to have them adjust the pinion angle a little tomorrow. the subframes require major welding, and my installers told me they are a ***** to put on, but they do really tie the car together well, and once they are on, GREAT SUCCESS!

 

It's amazing the difference subframes make on a unibody car. Your whine is likely a result of the firmer bushings on the UCA and LCAs, but have the pinion angle checked anyway.

 

+1 My techs installed a set today.... I got to see them briefly before I had to go, as my back is all sorts of screwed up. Anyway... they looked like a pain in the ***, but I did get a good vibe from what they were saying with the results. I'd like to test it out tomorrow if I'm feeling up to it.

 

im pretty sure its the pinion angle, when they set it first, following bmr's instructions, it was making like a kind of loud grinding/whining noise when accel/decel. they adjusted it, said it might need 1 more degree, but go test it. it was fine, till i got up to highway speed, then the whine started.

also, the subframes are HUGE. they basically go from wheel to wheel, the whole length of the car! i dont even think the fox ones were this big.

the NVH added by these parts is barely noticeable, if at all. to those who say these cars don't need subframes, maybe if you live where the roads are glass, but here in nyc they are a big help.

Mine are painted black, so they will be hard to see, but you can see them installed on bmr's site and they are red so they are easy to see.

 

Congrats on the BMR parts.... I have everything you see in BMR's pic showing the red parts.. mine are also black.

Every time someone ask about suspension or chassis mods, I always tell them to get subframe connectors first and the boxed are the best in my opinion. Subs make a great difference by themselves, but, really compliment any other suspension mods added.

I am very pleased with the BMR parts and the performance they provide... it's like getting a new car... driving down the road is such a pleasure now. I can drive with complete confidence and control way above any legal speed limits, mountain driving is a HOOT..

Axle whine is a common issue with our cars, if you do a search. I noticed it when I installed my UCA. Dealership rebuilt the rear diff to get the mesh right. I didn't think it was THAT bad. But the service writer was terrible and never communicated with me or properly to the tecj=h. I would have left it alone, but it got rid of 90% of the whine. I was complaining about a click/clunk that I get in the rear which is probably just the UCA.

 

ya the only problem im having now is my installer cant set the pinon for some reason, i dont think he can read instructions.

 

Uhhhh....huh? There's not a whole lot to it. Or did he monkey with it all day but the whine persisted?

 

well they didnt tell me that a little whine is normal, and now they have it adjusted so that something is banging around under the car over potholes.

 

Well that's not good! Sounds like something is loose.

 

im pretty sure its the driveshaft hitting the car (powerhouse) they have the UCA basically cranked all the way out, and now the driveshaft is sitting way too high and hitting the body. is this the type of thing a normal shop could fix? i really dont want to do the 2 hour drive again, and they can't do anything till tuesday. i also was told now that some whine is normal, since the bushings are much harder than stock. is this correct?

 

Improper pinion angle usually = vibration
Whine usually = gear mesh in the diff

A little whine is normal and you will hear some from the transmission and rear diff. What you are describing beyond the whine does not sound good.
