Beware Yellow GTO

Went on a vac. to the Smoky Mts. this past week from N. Il. area, got down near Lousiville Ky. on RT. 65 in IN. Along comes a Yellow GTO flying up behind me and then starts riding next to me, the highway opens up, we go from about 65 mph dead even until 110 he then jumps 3/4 car on me like an after burner kicked in, we let off at 120. I thought it would be an easy kill, no way was he stock, the engine sounded like he had a turbo. It was hot out I had a trunk full of luggage and a pass. and a full tank of fuel. He did get me, I gave him a thumbs up and he waved and exited down the road. I believe it was an 04 it had no hood scopes. This is the first time anyone has given me a good race since going FI. BTW the car did run good the rest of the trip even though it was in the upper 90's most of the time. Anyone near Lousiville KY. beware of a stock looking yellow GTO it's not.

Good traveling tip. I have to admit my GT is handling and running quite well in the recent heat. The AC is cool and the gas mileage is running in the 19-21 MPG range.

I know that car. He has some work done, but he wouldn't tell me exactly what. The exhaust was loud, but kind of raspy. I catch him in Sellersburg getting gas occasionally.

If those Goat's weren't so ugly. They are one hell of a car. A dealership tried to convince me to buy one, ya right. Gave it to me for 7 hrs, way fun, just UGLY, Caviler on steriods.

When they first came out, I checked one out at the local dealer, my first thought was that it did look like a Cavalier. Having said that - I think they are lighter and have a hell of alot of torque relative speaking but don't know the numbers

They are definitely not lighter than an S-197 Stang, well, maybe lighter than a Shelby GT500 but not a stock GT. GTOs have an additional 200 or so pounds on them compared to our GTs.

04 GTOs are very comprable in actual performance to our GTs, stock to stock. The weight difference, power curves and launch characteristics can give the Mustangs an edge over the 04 GTOs on the strip.

05-06 GTOs are another story...

I've taken a 400RWHP 05 goat at the track with my stock GT (Only CAI and Tuner and long tubes)(Sorta stock) anyways... He ran a 14.10 while I hit a 13.6

05-06 stock GTO's are shortened LS1/LS2 corvette 6.0 liter 6 speed manual "drag Queens" with coilover independant suspension running about 400RWHP/400RWTQ, so just add a 75 shot NOS and voila' there you go. here is an ebay link if you want to put one of these LS2's in your GT!

The GTO has a lot of Drive train Loss, stock rear wheel horsepower on 2006 is 330, 04 is 280 and they weight around 3950 lbs
