BBK T62mm TB????

Hello to everyone! I am new to this forum and look forward to talking with all of you about this wild world of Mustang Modification I bought an '06 GT last year and finally got the courage to start decking it out on the performance side of things. I installed a JLT II intake with the provided tune. A UPR o/r X-pipe, Pypes street-pro mufflers, steeda underdrive pulley's, and a Hurst shifter. I'm hoping to hit the magic 300rwhp mark when I go to the dyno later this afternoon. I would like to hear your thoughts on whether that is realistic or not. I also tried to install a twin 62mm throtle body from BBK. Unfortunatly, the car idled very unstable. I called SCT to see if there was a way around it, but was told that the TB was only to be used with forced induction and that on a naturally aspirated engine, the TB was not a necessary upgrade. Has anyone else heard this? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

I would call Doug at Bamachips to get his opinion. I was also thinking about getting this throttle body soon.

I have heard that throttle bodies have caused issues and also that they haven't, but haven't any personal experiance. Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords just released a video in which they installed one and gained 7hp, no issues. Brenspeed installed one with a cam without issue and gained 7hp. The other person's sugestion is a good one. Call Bret at Brenspeed and ask his opinion. They sell the bbk unit and tunes. Maybe he could whip a tune up for you. I was thinking to buy one myself and I am interested in what you find out.

I've contemplated the bbk tb as well, but with all the problems i hear from people who have aftermarket tb's.... i'm beginning to wonder if it's a bad idea.

It has been talked about extensively, that aftermarket TBs don't help. The stock is the best available.

+3 Doug at Bamachips, Kenne Bell, Whipple, and Ford all say that the factory is the best for natural, FI (forced induction), and nitrous cars. plus the aftermarket TB does not really gain HP they report gains bit it is more the other parts that do

First, welcome to the site and the addiction........

Second, with your mods on a Mustang dyno, I doubt that you'll hit 300 rwhp. Good luck, it will be interesting to see what you do end up with.

Lastly, these guys are right- you don't need an aftermarket TB with your combo or pretty much anyother NA combo, unless you have cams and heads.

There is a particular shop one of the SCT Reps told me today was making 600RWHP with the stock throttle body on N/A.

RubberEater, we'll keep the BBK 62mm in stock from now on, so when you need it we'll be ready.

Anyone with EXPERIENCE installing one of these and performing back-to-back dyno comparisons. Not trying to but I have been wondering about the t/b as well and the only thing I have seen/heard has been the Stang rags and the aforementioned DVD, which I watched and it DID improve power. What gives?

We installed one less that 48 hours ago and experienced nothing but trouble. Installation was a snap, the piece was machined perfect. No fitment issues, HOWEVER... Numerous mustangs have been going into failsafe mode. The drive-by-wire assembly is very touchy, and likes to be set at a certain tension, and if the butterflys aren't where they're supposed to be according to the drive-by-wire setup, the car will just failsafe mode.

They probably did pick up a proven...what was it... 8 horsepower or something? And amazing throttle response...

You have to ask... what was the very next modification. They supercharged it, and then mentioned the help of the BBK 62mm.

So I'm sure that it does make a good amount of power, but for the trouble of tuning through the pitfalls, and STILL running the risk of hitting failsafe mode in the middle of traffic. Is it worth the few HP?

They did mention in the vid that it was very important to properly adjust the spring?/preload? on the dbw assembly...

Yes, that is one thing we went through when putting the stock throttle body back on. That spring tension will do all sorts of crazy things to your electrical system.

Codes P2112 and 2104 popped up, check gas cap, and check charging system.

Cleared right up with spring tension set right.
