I have pretty much decided on the Bassani X-pipe with stock exhaust. I figure I will get some more sound, plus free up some hp. I can't see spending 300-600 dollars on a axle-back for just sound. I know people have installed them, so how do you like them? Any dyno proven gains? How much sound did it add? Thanks

Can't tell you how much more I enjoy the sound of my Bassanis and X-pipe. Maybe a touch more mid-range, but the sound makes it worthwhile.

Simply love 'em!

I had put a Magnaflow axle-back on a while ago, but it never gave me the volume I was looking for. Last night after work I added a Bassani off-road x-pipe, and all I can say is holy crap. I have no idea if it added power, I'm not really concerned about that, but I LOVE the sound!

I don't think this video clip really does justice to this setup ...

Video (low q), 2.1 MB, sound quality at 32 kHz
Video (high q), 4.2 MB, sound quality at 44.1 kHz

Bassani off-road x-pipe and Magnaflow axle-back

Todd,
How was the installation? My friend has a lift I can use, plus air tools. I think I can get it done in about an hour.

Just listened to your sound clip. That's the sound I am looking for!!! It should sound very similar with the stock mufflers, since I have read that the regular magnoflows are at near stock sound levels. I even read a post that said they were quieter.

heck yeah Jason, with a lift and air tools you should be good in an hour. It took me and a buddy two hours with hand wrenches and jack stands.

Let us know how it goes.

Man this Mustang is a money pit. I just got the car 3 weeks ago and already have a Predator and an appointment for tints on Saturday. I get paid tomorrow......X-Pipe and Intake??? I guess my gas mileage will go up a bit because I won't have to go WOT to hear the amazing sound the car makes.

I need a break from the forums

Any special adjustments needed? Or is it simply, unbolt the old one, and bolt the new one on?

Man that does make it sound different. Now I am contemplating installing the X Pipe. I thought someone said they had to remove the tranny mount to do this. Is that right?

It was pretty simple guys, unbolt the big clamps on the mid-pipes under the tranny, then unbolt the ball and socket nuts on the header end and wiggle that stock piece out. At one point in time, when trying to fit all the new pieces in I thought about dropping that tranny mount, but we were able to wrist-n-fit that sumbich in there.

I just read that too (HOTLAP I think). I think it was because of the issue with the older and newer cars. Remember some exhaust guys made a system, then Ford tweaked something that threw the exhaust guys off.

Edit: Found it - http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index....opic=19889&hl=

What about the Bassani axle-back with their comp cat X-pipe system? I don't recall reading about that setup.

I will purchase the axle-back but I am unsure about the rest. Would the complete system cause a drone at cruising speed?

How much louder would the complete system be than just the axle-back with the short x-pipe (like Swingle's)

Thanks

Talk to Mark, this 5-piece kit I got costs $479, but he'll cut you the best price around on any Bassani equipment, or other exhaust for that matter. They also sell Fidanza, Pro5.0, Centerforce, C&L, Magnaflow, Bassani, Diablo, SCT, gears, Accu-Fab, NGK, Denso, Brisk ... Underdrive pulley very soon. Dual cam timing gears very soon.

EDIT:

I just talked to Nino @ Ninosport.com

The short X-pipe is CA emissions legal, and will not change HP/sound (if at all, its slight)

The full X-pipe will show gains....and includes high flow cats. They technically are not CA emissions legal...but they may pass if no one looks under the car and notces that the EPA stamp isn't on the high flow cats.

hope this helps for anyone trying to decide. I think I will go with the full xpipe, and hope IF I ever take the car in...I will switch it out.
