Basic question about Ultralites
Basic question about Ultralites
Hey folks,
2006 Vista Blue GT here...stock suspension now. I'm putting on Ultralites this coming weekend and i'm wondering if some people who already have them can comment on ground clearance.
I'm not putting these on to "lower" the car but i understand that there will be some drop to the car as a result. I have a very practical concern about hitting things that i don't have to worry about today such as the typical parking stop cement things (not sure what to call them; the things at basically every parking stop that your tires sometimes hit and you know it's time to stop rolling!).
Can someone who has installed these comment on their ground clearance for basic daily driving?

****! That's what i was afraid of and now i'm starting to rethink (little late as ultralites have already arrived) the whole install. I will of course be careful, as i have been, but i definitely see a huge potential problem there.
Anyone else have thoughts?

Mine only has issues because of the cervinis splitter. The nose still won't clear curbs themselves(I wouldn't park a stock one that close to the curb), but parking blocks should be more then ok unless you have a low air dam.

(flame suit on)...not really sure what a splitter is, but i don't have ANYTHING installed aftermarket up front, standard 2006 GT front. It's encouraging to hear that regular concrete tire stops aren't a problem. I know what the advertised drop distances are, but what were your experiences? 1"? 1.25"? 1.5"?
I ran Ultralites for a year and never scraped anything. They probably are the least aggressive spring you can get as far as lowering and change in ride quality. I sold them and installed ST springs because I wanted the car a bit lower, especially in the rear. The Ultralites in my situation maintained the stock rake, despite Steeda photos showing the car level.

I have the ultralites and a cdc classic chin spoiler and I clear all "normal" curbs in parking lots and such. Im less then a 1/8" from scraping but I dont. Lol you just either back into parking spots, dont pull all the way forward and for inclines take then at an agle not straight on. Just be smart.
I have ultralites and have hit a few parking cement things. but some I clear. I back into most spots now if I can or I try to park where there arent any.
On a side note, in RE to the ultralites: I drove a buddies girlfriend from austin to dallas for him and she commented many times on how smooth the ride was, and she drives a BMW every day.

I put just the rear Ultralites on a couple of years ago. It was right at a 1" drop, and almost perfectly leveled the car (no rake). Front and back are within 1/4" of each other. So you can always start with just the back (especially as easy as they are to install), see how you like the look and ride, and decide on the front later.
Just put on the rears to level out the car, no drop up front in fact it will raise the front a tad. I plan on doing this with the new GT/CS fascia I have, just need to decide on Roush or Steedas. If you like the rears and want to try to lower the front at least you will have the springs. Keep the stock springs if you want to go back.
