Basic mods for 12's
#1
I know new products will always be coming out for the new Gt's but what would be the best bang for the buck mods for reliable high 12's? I already have an Xcal2 and CAI and practicing my gear-banging. Would suspension mods and drag radials already get me there? How would LCA's impact my ride quality? I want to keep it as stock as possible with no nitrous or blowers ect. From what I have read axle-back kits and headers don't impact the HP curve hardly any. How about off-road H or X pipe? I am not out to break records or be the fastest but I want a little more that what I have now and stay in the realm of stock reliability. Thanks

If you want 12s, all you need is this:
Tuner (which you have)
CAI with canned tune for tuner (which you have)
4.10 gears ($500 installed)
Mickey Thompson ET Street tires for the rears ($400 installed)
This should get you in the 12.80 range with your stock exhaust I would think.

I was thinking about some gears maybe next spring. Any complaints with them after install?

Strong advice: buy and install only Ford Racing gears!! Ninety percent of all others will whine, possibly vibrate. Go to buyfordracing.com and check out the 4.10's. Great gears.

You can get there with what you have if you have lots of practice driving at the track, otherwise I got there with only adding a shorter/wider tire and the mods you already have. My car ran 12.90-12.99 with X-cal 1, a shifter, MMR CAI (early kit), and a set of Fuzion 275/40/17 tires wich we drive on every day. After that every tenth of a second is about 1K unless you buy nitrous or slicks.

4:10 gears,4:10 gears,4:10 gears did i mention 4,10 gears.
You have everything except gears, remove front swaybar for track and sticky tires.I got 12.7,s with the basics.Well i did have an offroad pipe also.

Honestly, a set of slicks will get you into the 12s easier than 4.10s. The key is to put the power to the ground.

Ever run your car with the stock Pirelli tires with your 4.10's? I am sure they hook well with ET Streets or DR's, but was wondering how they worked with a true street tire. I personally think that 4.10s are too much gear for my power goals.

If you run 103 or above on your street tires you can get into the twelves with traction and gears.MPH is horsepower and will remain the same no matter what the 60ft is.

Well your half right. You wont get into the twelves with just adding slicks unless you are running a lot more HP.05 GT,s will get a slight to moderate bog off the line with slicks if your running the stock gears. The load on the engine will cause this. With the 4,10, or 4,30,s you will not get the bog.Our cars way 3,700 lbs.So to get that moving with full traction you will need the gears.Yes there are some that go twelves with stock gears but they chose the higher HP route.

You have it backwards.your ET will go down and your MPH will stay the same. You will have to shift into fourth also.i used to run third right thru the traps but after 4;10s fourth is used.If you run 109(witch seems high for your mods) you will run 12,s with slicks, at the same MPH.Your MPH will not change with slicks.MPH is horsepower wich doesnt change just cause you add slicks. You will just get there faster but at the same speed.I garantee that.
