BamaChips Tune Help
BamaChips Tune Help
Ok, so I just loaded my 93 Race BBK tune tonight from BamaChips and I noticed on the first startup the car was idling at 1500rmps, something I never noticed before. I have to admit though, that off the bat this is awesome. The moment I stepped on the gas, the car just came alive. The shift points are incredible, but the only concern I have is going from a steady speed to and getting ready to stop, it seems the tranny is taking a little more time to down shift back to first than stock. Is this just apart of the Race tune? I also purchased the 93 Performance and the 93 Torque. I loaded the 93 Race thinking, that may be the every day tune, but I am not sure. I may want to switch to 93 Performance now or 93 Torque...I dont want to hurt my tranny in any way.
Any thoughts or suggestion or is it all in my head? I did email Doug an hour ago, and I don't expect to hear back until Tuesday, most likely. I'm not really concerned at all, but I was wondering if this is just something that comes with the "Race tune" and is something I will have to live with, or could it be possibly something wrong with the shift points? I may try a different tune tomorrow, if it continues.

I have a Bama 93 race tune, but also have a manual, so I can't really comment too much. But a 1500RPM idle seems high. I would talk to Doug about that. My idle is 775RPM, but then again, thats because I wanted it low for the cams.
Do you think the car sitting for a couple days, would have caused this? The car was literally sitting for 5 days without being started.
I've got an auto and the 93 race tune. The car idles at around 800 in "D" with the brakes applied and around 650 in "N". However when u first start up the engine cold it idles at around 1200 for a few minutes.
Thanks for the info zaghloul!
Well, I pulled her out today and noticed on cold start, it was idling around 1100 - 1200, when I put it in Reverse to get out of the garage it dipped to about 900, then I went to Neutral, thinking it would get lower, it stayed the same and then I put it in Drive, and it dipped to about 800 or so. I will double check later when I leave work in a few hours.
My car used to idle at 1500 RPMs too when you first started it, all of Doug's tunes do that. That was an issue for me with my neighbors and SLP loudmouths/offroad H. Email doug and tell him the problem and he will edit the tune to cut down the "startup RPM adders" to make it start normally. The engine starting at 1500 RPM is actually better for it, I wouldn't get the tune edited unless the noise is a problem for you like it was for me.

I emailed Doug, he emailed me back and said:
Your transmission downshifts are still set at the factory limits, it
may just be the throttle response may be a little higher than normal keeping
it in a higher gear when coming to a stop. This is fine and unless it is any
way annoying to you I wouldn't mess with it.
I am just going to live with it, I don't have any problems with it, I just didn't know if it was normal or not.
Thanks for all the help guys!

Yeah, at this point I don't have a problem with it, but even after driving it today to the body shop, it seems like when it's down shifting, it's somewhat rougher than stock. I am not sure if that's normal or not.
