That is what I did because I will be putting on a supercharger soon and didn’t want to spend money on an intake that I couldn’t use. The change in performance is unreal. I haven’t taken the car to the track, so I don’t know about actual increases but the butt feeling is great. I have the 93 race, performance and torque tunes for the stock intake.
I have only tried the torque tune so far, as this is the one Doug recommended for everyday driving, but the throttle lag is gone and the engine responds like it should have from the factory. I have an automatic and the shifting under part throttle is unchanged but at WOT the shifts are so firm it will throw your head back. As I said in the previous post just do it, you won’t regret the choice.

i think you meant CAR but anyways i would say instead of 87 go 89 octane so you can get the best out of your mods and the best feeling ever...remember +1 octane gives you a little more kick with mods you have

Tuner newbie question: Is it bad in any way to keep switching between different tunes? When I get a tuner, I will want to try them all. I'm not going to burn out the computer or anything, will I?

So, did I read this thread correctly- there is no '87 torque' tune available, right?

I flipped back and forth 3x in 10 minutes, runs great!

Let the Chirping Begin

Okay...so I have a new sound I like in my car. The sound of tires chirping in 2nd and 3rd gear in my Automatic, when floored! Thanks Doug!
At first I didn't want to flash my computer so I mulled the past few months over CAI's that didn't need a tune but settled on Airaid.
I also got the Airaid since I knew Doug had tunes for it in case I changed my mind and of course it was about 2 weeks after I had the Airaid I decided what the hell...get the tuner.
So it feels great and I'm glad I did it. I chose the 87 Performance, 89 Torque and 93 Torque tunes. Just to be a little economically minded I filled up with 89 and am running the 89 Torque first. I can feel the difference for sure and love the sound of the tires chirping under WOT. I'll try the 93 Torque here and there but will probably use the 89 Torque most of the time. Installing the SCT tune was simple. Thanks again Doug and to everyone here because all the many posts on this subject helped me decide.

Talking

I got my tune from Doug this week also. 87 performance really got rid of the throttle lag. I just changed to the 93 Torque. Talk about being thrown to the back of your seat. All I can say is WOW!! I don't know why I waited so long, and Doug is the great person every one claims he is.

Doug if you see this, I sent you an email last night that was a little more detailed, I know its the weekend but I also know that your email on your site has been messing up so I figured this is the best way to get a hold of you, but I was wondering if the C&L XII package was available, on your website it says to contact you before ordering. Thanks Doug! I hope this is gonna be as good as everyone here has said it is.

Question about Learn Mode

One other question if anyone knows the answer. Does Doug turn off 'Learn' mode in his tunes? The reason I ask is because I read some other posts about 'learn' mode making adjustments over time. Maybe it's a not a bad thing...can't remember the verdict on that. But if Doug leaves learn mode on does that mean tunes should be re-flashed periodically?

And one more question. I seem to remember reading something about the drive by wire throttle down, when you let off the gas pedal the throttle does not rev down immediately, something like so many seconds and then it revs down. Does Doug mess with this too? The reason I ask, and I might have to quiz Doug about it, is my throttle does not seem to respond correctly running the 89 Torque tune with Airaid CAI. It seems fine when I floor it however. It seems like if I'm cruising along feathering the gas and maybe let off the throttle that when I do give it throttle again a second or 2 later I feel a weird hesitation like I have to give it more throttle than I was previously used to doing. Has anybody had that? Maybe I will reset to stock to be sure it's the tune and not something else.

Are the Race Tune and Performance Tune the same thing? I drive around with the performance tune all the time 'cuz I'm too lazy to take 3 minutes to change it to the torque tune.

Blaster you are correct but I believe (correct me if im wrong) that its only on manuals. It does that when you put the clutch in and take your foot off the gas. When you do this it cause a sudden rich fuel mixture. So to keep emissions down it revs up a tiny bit before it goes back down to burn off the excess fuel.

Yeah, not sure if the autos do this. Doug got back with me and said that yes it might be a good idea to reload the tune after a month or longer to overwrite any learned driving traits. So I may do this.
As far as the weird throttle feel I recalibrated my throttle as posted in other threads here and maybe that's what I needed...can't say yet because it's been raining and I haven't driven much except to work and back.

I was reading up trying to find out what the difference is in these 2 devices. Best I can tell the Xcalibrator 2 is for SCT dealers\tuners like Doug, Brenspeed, Evolution and others to load up their custom tunes. I noticed that you cannot buy Xcalibrator 2 from the SCT site but you can buy the Strategy Flash device. The Strategy Flash device looks like it *only* comes with tunes done by SCT. Go to the sct site and see if you come to the same conclusion.
