Bamachip Tunes- Question

I could ask Doug these questions but figured I'd get a quicker response here, from people running Bamachip tunes on SCT Xcal 2.

Doug offers 3 types of tunes: Performance, Torque, Racing

I can guess the fundamental differences from the names but can anyone give more details, from experience, about each. I'm trying to figure out which 3 tunes to ask for when I get the SCT.

Get an 87 performance tune, 93 torque tune and a 93 race tune. I promise you will be very happy with these. It is so worth it and Doug is a GREAT guy. Good Luck!

My exact question to Doug, here was his response...

"On a 4.6 I focus in where the factory left off, the mid range torque curve. My 4.6 programs are aimed more at adding more torque in the 1500-3500 rpm range and with the performance program more top end power as well. On all of my products I can raise or remove the rev and speed limiters and on automatics I can improve the shift quality as well. Also with the 05 ups I have the ability to remap the Drive-By-Wire throttle system to further help the throttle response and get rid of that annoying lag time.

I can adjust for most CAI kits on the market today so please be sure and state if you have one of these kits or plan on purchasing one in the future. If you do buy one later on simply let me know and I can email you a new file for your new CAI. I sell the C&L and X-2 combo for $749 or the JLT2 and X-2 Combo for $549. Either produce very simliar numbers on the dyno, around 285rwhp and 305 rwtq with a manual or 285rwhp and 295 rwtq from an auto, both with my 91/93 programming.

I normally create three programs, an 87 and 91/93 performance and a 91/93 torque, depending on what grade of fuel is available in your area. The Torque and Performance programs differ in the range they are aimed at for making power. The Torque is more so a daily driver program that focuses in on the 1500-3500 rpm's band. In order to do so well in that range though it does give up a few HP up top and this is why I break it apart from my Performance adjustments. The Performance program is aimed at more of a 3000rpm and up rpm band focusing in more on the top end horsepower and all out performance driving. This is a great track tune but also works well daily driven. Any of my programs are safe to use for daily driving unless you request a race only tune. I've just recently developed a mid grade or 89 Performance program so if you'd like to substitute it for any of the others then just let me know.

Three programs are included for any of the prices below.

Here's a quick run down of what I have to offer...

X-calibrator Version 2 w/ 3 programs $399

This programmer can hold up to 3 different performance. Simply plug it into your diagnostic port below the steering wheel and tune like a pro. With easy to follow instructions it will retain your stock programming and re-flash your computer with up to 3 different programs there again written for your vehicle. It will typically come with a premium gas performance program, a regular gas program, and a premium torque program. Then if you decide to sell the vehicle or go in for emissions/warranty repair just plug it in and return it to the stock calibration. These tuners will also be able to retrive and clear trouble codes. For an added bonus it will also be able to datalog some of your engine's sensors, this only means that it will read these functions not change them. You will also be able to make some changes to your programming using either the X-2 it's self OR by plugging it into your PC using a USB cable.

The information I'll need from you for your specific vehicle is this...
1.) Year Model
2.) Engine size and auto or manual
3.) Calibration Code 4 digit
4.) Tire size
5.) Axle code or gear ratio
6.) List of mods you've done or plan on doing soon.
7.) Premium Grade of fuel available in your area, 91, 92, or 93
octane.

Even if most of your vehicle is stock I will need to know these items due to differences in the base files for each computer. Attached is a photo showing the calibration code location. It's the four-digit code written on the side of the PCM under the hood to the left of the radiator. The axle code is written on the inside of the driver's door on the white label, it will be a two-digit code of two letters.

Feel free to ask any questions that I may not have covered, as I know I can't get every detail in one email. I'll be happy to help."

how come on the link above it says to choose a premium fuel, and it only gives u the choices of 91,92,93? if then it says to choose the type of tune w/ the octane u want?

im getting ready to puchase a tuner from doug and was wondering w/ octane to choose for the tunes. i want a performance, torque, and race tune, but dont know w/ octane to choose, i know to get 93 for the race and 93 for the torque, cause those are obviously the best and most suited for the track as it said obove. but if i get a 87 octane for the performance, does it even run great, cause dont u need 93 for the tune to run excellent. i wanted to know cause i dont know which would be the best for a daily driver?

I have only tried the 91 torque and 91 performance tunes. Both feel pretty similar to the butt dyno. However the torque feels more satisfying, even if the difference is very minor. Just seems to pull harder to me.

Im interested in the race tune but having access only to 91 I wonder if it'd even be worth trying.

The best part of both tunes to me is the improved throttle and (auto) transmission. I would have paid the mony even if that were the only thing they improved.

BTW Doug is a great guy and I cannot reccomend him enough.

The reason I requrest the premium fuel in your area is the normal tunes I write are 87P, and then 91 or 93 Perf. and Torq. I can't figure out a way to put it that I can write any of these tunes for any octane EXCEPT 87. I can only write Performance in 87 and I cannot do a Torque tune because there just isn't enough adjustability.

So I first request the high octane fuel in your area so if someone requests two 93 programs and only has 91 I can talk with them about it and write the proper tunes for them, it's happened before. Also I have some other vehicle owners that only want 87 and 89 programs so they can specify that they only want these tunes.

I'm trying to figure out a way to put this in my order form because this is my #1 question in all of my emails but the store software will only allow so many characters and not enough for a description for it. I've tried to to it below the order form but most don't scroll down that far.

The best thing to do is if you have any questions just shoot me an email or give me a call at 205-302-0231.

Thanks!! Doug.

Refering to the comment above, Doug could you pls explain why the race tune is not safe for daily driving? I've seen this stated on other boards as well.... This is what I run as my daily driving tune, purchased from you about 2 months ago based on feedback from others. After seeing this stated again, I am wondering if I need to purchase another tune from you for my daily driving tune, just to be safe.

Thanks Paul.

Doug's tunes suck! I keep spinning tires all day, and smoking Chargers. I want my money back! LOL!

93 torque tune, day in day out, works great as a daily driver.

Got my SCT tuner from Doug today and loaded the 93 torque tune. All I can say is !!WOW!!, this is a completely different car now. I don’t have a CAI just the tune. If anyone has been on the fence about getting an SCT tuner and trying an upgraded tune don’t wait any longer.

Hey Paul,

The race tune maybe a little much for throttle responce for daily driving habits and could get you into trouble at take off or cruising through a parking lot. Now this is the premium octane race tune, I also offer Race FUEL race tunes and of course you would need to use Race fuel for these.

Dang you Hatchman! Guess what post title will come up now everytime someone puts BamaChips in a google search..

so the best bet for a daily driver/weekend racer would be a 87 performance tune. with a 93 torque and 93 race tune?

the 87 performance tune would be the best bet for daily driver right? or would it be better to mod up to 93 performance?

the race and torque tunes are best suited for the track rather than the performance right. cause i plan on getting 4.10 gears. what exactly is the difference between these 2?

sorry for all the questiones doug. just wanna make the best informed decision

dude for us down here 93 across the board would be good since our octanes are only 87 89 93 so you would do better with 93 all around or 87 or 89 perf (if you do not want to spend much on gas) 93 torque 93 race or 93 performance (Race would be better since i can see your car getting alot of track time)

This question may be stupid and obvious but I have to ask to make sure.

If you have a tune for say 87 or 91 and you run ahigher octane gas such as 93 you won't have any problems will you? I assume it is only a problem if you run a lower octane than your tune.

You shouldn't run into any trouble running higher octane. The concern is running lower than rated which can cause detonation.

maybe another dumb question, but what is the increase of performance like if you leave the stock airbox and intake system and only do a computer tune?

Now that I see these posts I'm thinking maybe I should do this for the 3 tunes when ordering the SCT.

87 Perfomance - since that's pretty much the only one he can do for 87 and I'd like to have an 87 tune just for economy puposes

89 Torque - I would probably use this most of the time

93 Torque - I would probaby try this here and there when I want to feel a little more performance

Since I don't do any racing I would probably forgo the Race tunes.
