Bama 91 Performance VS 91 torque tune?

Whats the difference between these 2 tunes? Which is better? I did a search but it won't allow words under 3 characters.

I'm sure there's more to it than this and there are a gazillian threads on it but this is the super quick answer:
-Perf tune: focuses power at higher RPMs but sacrifices a little down low
-Torque tune: focuses power at lower RPMs but sacrifices a little up high
-Race tune: same as a performance tune but with a more responsive throttle. This is preferred by most manual drivers but many automatic drivers claim this is to jerky for everyday driving.

Email Doug and ask him, better to get your answer straight from the tuner than from guesses from the forum. That said, my understanding is the difference between the torque, race and performance tunes is throttle response changes that Doug makes. The horsepower and torque will be the same whichever tune you use. You'll find the race tune to be the most sensitive to throttle changes, then the perf and then the torque. You may find the throttle response to be too sensitive in the race tune or you may like it.

I agree with chad that it's best to consult directly with bama.

However the differences between perf and torque have nothing to do with throttle response. My quick definition above is more inline with a long-ago post directly from Doug of bamachips. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showpo...77&postcount=6

Just my $0.02 -

I have the 87 Performance, 93 Torque, and 93 Performance tunes from Bamachips.

The best times I have always ran with my car have been with the 93 Torque Tune. The whole "sacrificing power up top" thing.......you're literally looking at 2-3hp tops. There isn't a huge difference between the two from my timeslips that I can see; maybe .05 and .50mph, but it always consistently in favor of the 93 Torque tune, NOT the Performance tune as I thought it would be. The 87 Performance tune seems to lag about .25 and 1.0-1.5mph behind both 93 octane tunes.

If you're getting a new tuner from him, you get 3 choices. I'd get 87 Performance, 93 Torque, 93 Race.

The Race Tune is the same as the Performance, it just has a little more aggressive throttle opening calibraiton.

I have Doug's 87 Perf, 91 Torq and 91 Race tunes for my auto. I ran the 87 Perf tune until I fiiled a nearly empty tank with 91 octane. I ran the 91 Torq for a couple of days then loaded the 91 Race. I love the Race tune! Very quick throttle response, shifts throw you back in your seat and she screams like a Banshee at high RPM's under WOT. It has the same low end grunt as the Torq tune plus the hp at the top end like the Perf. Exercise judicious throttle modulation and the Race tune is excellent for a daily driver. Plus it's there when you want it.

I like the race tune in my auto better than the torque tune but both a far better than stock at any octane rating.

Seems like alot of people forgo the 89 tunes. Since I only have his 89 tq tune, I can't compare it to his other tunes. But the 89 tq tune is much better than stock and the canned tunes.

Spike explained it as I remember Doug explained it some time ago. Everyone will settle on a favorite, mine is the 91 torque. I have an automatic.

The performance tune has an easier throttle response for everyday driving IMO but the torque isn't hard to get used to. I don't have any dyno numbers to back up my experiance or anything but the torque tune "feels" like it pulls and shifts harder than the performance, the performance "feels" like it's a more smooth pull and the shifting feels less abrupt to me.

I've been running the 87 performance tune for a couple of months and it feels great also. Not as fun as the torque but a big improvement over stock.

I just switched up to the 93 Torque from the 87 Performance in my car this weekend. It's has little more grunt to it; it is noticeable. Seems to sound a little different and pull a bit harder. I asked Doug if the Torque tune is related to the variable cams at all. He said not as much as you'd think, as the stock cam timing isn't far off from the factory. Whatever, it's $2.00 a tankful. If you're already paying $50.00, what's $2.00 more for better fuel and a better tune? I mean really...who likes engine gunk?

I did the same thing the last two fill up's. Went back to the 91 torque tune. It's actually a bigger change than I thought. I'm torn because I don't get to experiance the potential of the higher octane tune 90% of the time, it's just that 10% I really miss having my tires chirp and the rear slide a little bit hitting third.

Your right it's only about $2.00 more per tank, but adds up when your only geting 12.5-13.5 MPG.
