Axle-Back Sound Different than Cat-Back?

Ordered a Borla Axle-Back because I saw no need to replace the already mandrel bent piping. Assuming Borla/Magnaflow etc. removed one or two bends, would this make ANY difference in sound?
I took fluid dynamics and can't think of a reason as far as air flow is concerned (though there will be slightly less losses due to removal of bends....).
Thoughts?

I have Magnaflow,s axleback, and I almost believe at idle my factory was louder.But they do sound nice at speed and decelaration.Want to loose the cats then see how they sound.
