Axle back mufflers

I am on my second set of axle back mufflers on '07 GT. First set was SSS Stainless. Second set are Flowmasters. Both sets had a good outside sound, but the inside drone is terrible. Does anyone know for sure of mufflers with a desent sound without the inside drone ? I was told both sets I have put on would be no drone. My car is auto trans. Would that cause more drone ? I'm about to the point of putting my stock mufflers back on. If anyone could help me I would appreicate it.

Many chambered systems will have some drone with the exception of the GTAs. From what I have read, Corsas tend to have zero drone. I have MAC Boom Tubes which is a straight through design like the SLP LM system, the difference is in the louvered core, which is like a race muffler. I don't experience any major drone in any of the rev ranges that I operate in. At highway cruising, there is just a hum that is barely intrusive at all.

there is a little on the Borlas (non-stinger) but its really not that bad unless you're in fourth gear going 30mph and try and floor it.

I have had a few different setups in the 9 months that I have owned my car:

Stock
Pypes muffler delete
Pypes offroad X/Pypes muffler delete (WHOA)
Pypes offroad X/Stock Mufflers

The muffler delete was too glasspack or truck sounding for me, and with no cats holy crap it would literally wake the dead. I had that combo for a week and got rid of the mufflers.

I am VERY happy with the OR/X and stock mufflers, they are pretty quiet when you are just driving but when you hammer it they really come alive. The only real criticism that I see is that it might be slightly raspy for some people. I have heard people really like an O/R H pipe with Stock mufflers. Again, to each their own..

Corsa's are the best for sound as well as ZERO drone.
You can bank on it!

I'm not trying to be a dick but come on ... How can you say that? I have the Magnaflow catback with a offroad x pipe and have zero drone but you say the muffler deletes don't have drone? I've had them and they do drone.

Stingers sound great, but they have some drone. Personally, I like the drone--but it doesn't look like the threadstarter does.

+1 on the KRs. Excellent sound at WOT, no drone and very nice cruising at highway speeds.

If you hate drone, stick with the stock mufflers. The GTAs and Corsas are drone-free based on TMS member feedback, but honestly the stock mufflers are fine for me. I had Pypes Violators and I couldn't stand the drone.

Borla 11752 are nice..for me. Get loud when going up hill in 5th at 1500 or so but not ear splitting.

I like 'em.

This discussion is.. interesting.

How do you determine what's an awesome muffler for your car without trying it on for yourself? (That one is rather self explanatory, so I don't really need an answer for it, but hey, go for it if you must.)

Corollary, but much more important... how can you *pay* for all those different possibles, if you keep not finding the ones that are perfect for you?

Muffler shopping has got to be *the* worst situation I can come up with, unless you just get plain lucky and smack 'perfect' upside the head right off with your first choice. How many can say that?

/I guess I might be one... those Thrush CVXs I used for my dual set up on Muskrat were pretty **** sweet, but I didn't buy them for the sound, I bought them for the 'not gonna rust... ever' thought process.
//Notorious low spot in those under seat positions...

Spent a bunch of time looking and listening, online and in the meatworld as well. That is really the only way to go, like a lot of mods, it is an individual thing for everyone.

Ended up with Magnaflows and couldn't be happier. Just a little deeper most of the time but you know when you romp on it. Even got compliments for a coworker with a GTO with Flow 40's on it.

Go to a show etc. and see for yourself. I wanted 304 stainless if spending that much.

Heard youtube clips. Heard, for real, Stingers, GTA's, Flows, etc. Rode in a few cars, blah, blah blah.

My choices were Corsa and Borla 11752 since my kids have sensitive ears. Not a peep out of them with the Borlas..they say the car sounds "cool."

Corsa, while awesome sounding, a little too many $$$ for me now.
