Axle back exhaust systems questions?

I’m looking for some help on axle back exhaust kits for my ’07 GT. I’m concerned with drone and have read somewhere that the Corsa kit has no drone and is actually quieter on the highway. This almost sounds too good to be true so does anyone have personal experience with these?

I have narrowed my choices to four. The Corsa, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, and Stillen kits.

I would love feedback from anyone who owns these kits and what you think of them.

why not consider the FRPP GTA's? No drone, great looking tips, cheaper than any other axle-back, $280 from ninosport

If you're really worried about drone, the concensus is going to be either the Corsa's or the FRPP GTA's (Shelby GT Mufflers). You're certainly going to pay quite a bit more for the Corsa's though.

GTAs. No drone, and like 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the Corsas.

I'm sure I've seen a video of that combo before. Search the boards and YouTube as well.

This is true, but it's a case of "you get what you pay for".

The Corsa's are fully stainless steel, and have a LIFETIME warranty. And, I think the Corsa's may be louder too.

I bought the FRP Stingers (by Borla) last year and fell in love with the sound, despite the drone that they were known for. A year later I got tired of the drone and bought the Corsa exhaust from CDC and haven't looked back. The Corsa's have their own distinct sound that's there when you want it, i.e. under throttle. At city or highway cruise when the rev's are between 1500-2000 rpm, can't hear a thing but your stereo. Cruise around in a lower gear (+2500 rpm) and you'll get a nice, steady growl....but no drone.

As for price, yeah they're expensive but like everything, you get what you pay for. And interestingly, they make the car feel alot richer or more expensive or whatever you want to call it - it's hard to put your finger on it but it's just different.

IMO, I did the right thing. The FRP's were sold to a friend so I can still hear them once in awhile - which is also a good thing !!

Had Corsas for about a year....... loved them. At times I regret selling them.... but I ended up with Borla catback and Dynamax resonators installed with an offroad H pipe: no drone, no resonance.

BTW, that was probably my comment that you read

Like you, I was concerned too that it was "too good to be true", but Corsa assured me that it was in fact true, and they were right.

Their motto used to be "Loud when you want it to be, quiet when it needs to be", and that's honestly the best way to describe them.

Besides tom281, I don't think that there's anyone that's decided to sell their Corsa's for something else.

That's correct, and I only sold because I was running them with an offroad pipe and they were a tad too loud with that setup. otherwise, a great great system.

I will state one potential downside to the Corsa's (besides the price): they are heavier than the stock mufflers.

I gotta say the GTA's! We love them!!!!!

However... a great customer of ours just dropped off a set of Baer brakes to be installed on his 06. Completely stock back to the axles, with SLP loudmouths. Sounds the best I've ever heard on any S197 so far. Now with an intermediate, or LT's it may need cats to keep its' low growl, but I really love them! I mean this car sounds like what every mustang needs to sound like!

A thought that was given to me about drone. I have an auto trans and the car often is in the 1700-1900 RPM range, drone range. When I used to drive a stick, and my friend with 07 stick, reminded me that you usually never drive below 2K RPM with a stick. So, my conclusion is drone don't seem to go away, but can be reduced with differant exhaust (or stock), with an auto trans. I have 3 cat backs at the house now.
I wonder if that is why there is a differant stock muffler for auto.

Mike, Do you know how much heavier the Corsa's are because I was under the impression they were two pounds lighter than the stock ones!
