I have been looking for an exhaust system basically for sound. I do a lot of highway driving, so my main concern is that it doesn't drone at 75-80 mph. I would like a system that sounds mean, but is refined. I was leaning towards the JBA system, but have loved Borla's on other cars. Give me your guys opinions on how you like your respective aftermarket exhaust systems.

i was in the situation as you, i was up in the air between flowmaster, SLP or MAC. Flowmaster was my #1 choice, till I called them up and found out how much they were charging I said forget it. SLP sounded great but I wanted it to be more louder and sound almost like flowmaster. Then one of my good buddies on here had the MAC kit and he said it sounded great, sounded like Flowmasters, but louder. Came online and found a clip, listened to it, i fell in love! I'm goin with the MAC Performance SS Axle Back. I've heard MAC Mufflers on previous older Mustangs and they sound terrific, def does sound like Flowmasters.

Bassani is best from what I've heard but it is a little pricey. If you have the money go for it.

I have the JBA, I think they sound really good and have had a lot of compliments on the sound. There is some drone when in 5th gear around 60-65 mph. Once you get over 65 it's gone and sound real good up around 75-80 mph.

I went with JBA because I want to upgrade to their long tube headers and off road h-pipe in the future. Wanted to keep with the same manufacturer for the whole exhaust system.

I went with JBA. I order it last sat. and hopefully I will get them by this sat. So I will let you know how they sound. From the sound clips online they sound great. Also I found them on ebay for $285 and free shipping from a company out of San Diego. So for the price they can't be beat.

Magnaflow makes great produts too. I have the Magnaflow axle-back and while quieter than some it doesn't drone much (if any) and does sound good when you are driving agressivley.....also their 4" dual wall tips fit the rear valance openings perfectly...

The SLP is loud, mean, no drone, and looks killer, and has a great price. Its the SLP for me. Do a search, there were clips posted a while back.

I agree with hotlap on the Magnaflow. That is what I have. Before I gutted my cats, it was very mellow. It would be slightly louder/deeper than stock when you get on it but when you are cruising at 70-80, it is very quiet. I drove all the way to Houston (from New Orleans) and back with that setup and it was very comfortable... hardly any drone. It got to the point where it was actually too soft for my tastes so I gutted the cats and now it's 10 times louder. But I would definitely consider Magnaflow. One of the cheapest out there, supposedly adds 15-20HP, very quiet when you need it to be, and you can't beat the 4" rolled tips.

Gotta go borla on this one.

It sounds like you like them from before, you'll love them now.
Especially the way it sounds on the 3v v8

Heres a clip:

where did you hear that clip from yeah im with this guy, i think every system sounds no where near as good as mac. The corsa system sounds decent and so does borla but is it worth the 400+ dollars more then a mac system, NO WAY

Thanks for the opinions.....I want a system loud under WOT, but relatively quiet on the freeway. I commute 60 miles roundtrip to work, so nothing too loud.

I strongly suggest the magnapack cat-back.

picks up the most power and has an incredible sound.

IMO for $500 it's the best cat-back out there.

I my good friend had a jba kit on his 03 f-150 the thing sounded great and fit flawlessly. I would know I put it on and it was fairly quick and easy. If their kit for the 05 stang is anything like it was for the f-150 go with it.

I agree the Magnaflow sound great (from what I've heard online), but I don't think you see any HP gains from any of the systems. That's according to everything I've read.

Whatever you do, you may want to hear it in person.
Opinions and soundclips are NO way to help you in a decision.

According to Magnaflows site, their cat-back gains you 19HP. I don't see how the axle-back would be more than a couple less than that, since both have 2.5" pipe. After I installed my kit, I definitely felt a difference in HP. Pretty much the most increase in HP other than the tune. And this was before I even installed the tuner. I am guessing it was close to 15, because it was a noticeable difference over when I installed the pulleys... which are supposedly around 8-10. Of course, I don't have proof. But I had driven the car for over a thousand miles prior to installing the axle-back kit, so I definitely know when I have more acceleration.

I agree with you, but I haven't seen anyone post with about exhaust in the Chicagoland area. There is a Mustang meet nearby next weekend, I may swing by and see if anyone has an 05 GT with exhaust. I really love the sound of the Borla Stinger's on my friends C5. If the Borla's sound similar to that on our car, then I am pretty much sold.
