automatic and tuners settings

Hi!
just wanted to know if you guys had play with settings on tuners like timing and shift pressure. (yeah if you don't know what you're doing...stay away, i'm just curious and want to learn)
and how to know if you can advance timing?
i know there is fuel octane in one hand, and timing in the other hand. like if you advance timing you ve to use a higher octane. but what s the combination?
what about shift firmness and pressure?
what are your tuner settings?

thanks!

I've got sct tuner, and that's the only settings i've not play with.

If I am not mistaken (which happens from time to time), increased shift pressure would hold the gear longer? I don't know really, but that makes sense to me.

The shift firmness increases pressure on the linings so it will get yu from 1st to 2nd while shirping the tires and even on third and its a good thing because that way the linings dont wear out as fast and to hold the gear longer you need to let it shift at higher RPM,just remember to increase the rev limiter to

will playing with shift firmness hurt the transmission? or it's better because there is less slip?

Ive been playing with it alot and it wont hurt your transmission, it will wear the linings less due to the increase pressure

If your not experienced dont mess with it since you can fry your engine or get detonation if its not adjusted right

Hey,

Great questions! Do you have custom tunes currently for your modifications from a tuning shop or are you using the tunes that come standard inside the SCT device?

If you purchased custom tunes from a reputable tuning service like Bama Performance at AmericanMuscle.com, they should already have modified your shift pressures and times to get you a firmer/faster shift as well as tuned your car for the optimum amount of timing for the octane tunes that you requested.

For example, if you ordered an 87 Street tune from Bama, it would already have the most amount of timing that we'd recommend for both performance and reliability for 87 octane on the street! If you also ordered a 93 Race tune from Bama, that tune would be optimized for running 93 octane in the tank. You wouldn't want to add timing to those, as we've already done the hard work of datalogging, dyno tuning, tracking and testing those tunes for countless hours to find the perfect level of maximum performance with safety in mind.

The shift settings, we change differently for each tune. We offer a Street, Performance and Race tune. For example - if you ordered the Street tune, it's going to be set up for comfortable shifts at part throttle, but firm - for that low-end "torque" feeling that you want on the street. However, if you use our Race tune, those shifts are going to be set up for wide-open-throttle performance! We can tweak those to your liking, so if you call the shop that did your custom tunes, they should be able to cater to your needs.

If you're using the pre-loaded or "canned" tunes inside the SCT box under "Strategy Tune", those leave alot to be desired and you can mess with timing/shift parameters to get what you want. However, we HIGHLY recommend that you go for a set of aftermarket custom tunes in order to get dialed in for your exact mods, driving style, octane level, etc.

If you have absolutely any questions about custom tuning, shoot me over a PM or simply reply back! Also, you can speak directly to one of our Bama Performance tuning specialists (no middle-man, talk right to a tuner), here at AmericanMuscle. They're in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and would be more than happy to help. We're SCT's largest dealer in the world, and have tuned more 05-10 Mustangs than anyone else. We have the experience that you're looking for! We own 10+ company Mustangs and have over 30 employee Mustangs that we constantly test and refine with. We have some of the fastest Mustangs in their class and you can find us datalogging on the streets of Malvern, PA or at a local Racetrack (when weather permits, LOL!) making sure our tunes are safe, powerful and consistent!

I hope this info helps! Good luck!

Yeah i m using preloaded tunes from my sf3 tuner. I m now willing to have a custom tune, because i ve just changed my gears, that was the last thing i was waiting for loading a custom tune. However i can t dial because i m about 10 000 kms from you in the middle of pacific ocean! Lol. I was thinking about Am tunes or brenspeed's.
We only have 91 octane here, and i want a tune with quick acceleration for my auto 4.10 gears and c&l racer cai. Coz We only have a higway of 3 kms long.
