well i just got off the phone with lentech my self. very interesting conversation, i would like to talk to performance automatic and some others as well. if the information i received is accurate, it was a real head scratcher for me and my plans for the car :bang: we talked about way to much to type everything but this is the impression i got...
1 the factory auto is not going to take a whole lot. the input shaft is VERY small and so are the clutches. naturally aspirated with some bolt-ons street/strip setup should hold up ok but thats about it. if the time and money was spent on trying to make the tranny better it could be done but it's not likely and surely wouldn't be for quite some time if and when that would happen.
2 with the way an auto car is setup electronically (computer/wiring etc), you would be much better off starting with a 5 speed manual car and then swapping in a 4r70w or c-4. it's still going to take some work but initially sounds like that would be the best way to start out if an auto is in the future for your car.
all im doing is repeating what i was told, everyone is certainly entitled to there own opinions. now im forced to make a decision before my car gets built. i would hate to spend $1k on the auto option to find out it would have been cheaper and easier if i would have just got the stick and then did an auto swap down the road when i really needed it
hope this helps some

I had these same discussions with the trans manufacturers about a month ago ... But remember back when the AOD first came out everyone said they were complete garbage and now you regularly see cars with 800-1000 hp using them. The market is far too large for the trans companies not to come up with a solution. There are already three companies who have/ or within 30 days will have Torque Converters out for the auto. Also, it will take a few people to break their trans so that the aftermarket can verify the weak points and make them stronger.

well said! either way it sounds like it would still be easier to start off with a stick and upgrade to an auto later which is what i didn't want to do :bang:

If you want to go with a C4 or other auto trans than purchasing a stick is the way to go, because the automatic computer WILL NOT work with a different trans.

JMS swapped in a 4R70W into their car that ran low 11's on nitrous. I don't know if it started out as a 5R55S before the conversion. They should be able to provide some details on the swap, but I didn't receive a response to an email I sent them a couple months ago.

What are the companies that have (or will have) torque converters for the '05 auto? Any links?

Thanks for the link. It says the converter is available now, but I don't see anywhere to order it or see the price. Do you know how much it is?

We will be testing the TCI for a magazine story shortly.

$200 just for tune file or does that include a dyno run ?
$200 just for a tune file is waaaaaaay toooo much.
If that also included dyno runs and customization then it's a fair price.
