I can't find Mobil 1 5w20 in Canada anywhere. Is it okay to use the 0w20? It says right on the package it is designed for use on Fords which need 5w20.

Thanks

I'd check with your dealers service department.

Maybe you should have one of us buy the oil for you here in the states at a local walmart and have them ship it to you in Canada....

I am currently running Mobil 1 0w20 in my GT, and everything is fine. I need to put the second round in. I've been 4,000 miles on this change.

0W-20 Mobil 1 should be fine in your 4.6, but I, too, want the 5W-20 Mobil 1 and I may bring it back from the States when I'm down there in the spring.

I bought 2 cases of 12 Motorcraft 5w-20 from a dealer in Indiana when I was down there, even before I even took delivery of my new Stang. Cost me $2.99 US a quart, full retail as a walk-in customer. Not bad.

I won't use the Cdn dealer 5W-20 Motorcraft. For your information and after a lot of phone calls and research, I can tell you that Canadian 5W-20 Motorcraft oil is NOT "synthetic blend", like it is in the States. Cdn dealer Motorcraft oil is ordinary (not semi-synthetic) oil supplied by ESSO, though it does state on the bottle that it meets Ford specs.

US dealer Motorcraft is supplied by ConocoPhillips and it's much better stuff. It is excellent oil and holds up very well in these engines, according to the used oil analyses and chat on www.bobistheoilguy.com

ConocoPhillips supplies essentially the same oil as (US) Motorcraft 5W-20 under other brands, namely Phillips 66 Trop Artic, Kendall GT-1, 76 Super Synthetic Blend and Conoco Super All Season.

That's why next time in the States, I'll buy cases of the 5W-20 Mobil 1 or more US Motorcraft 5W-20.

P.S. One little benefit of buying US oil is that our 4.6s take exactly 6 US quarts oil, which is 5.7 litres, so you don't have any oil left over after an oil and filter change.

Good question. I can only find Castrol 5W-20 and Mobil 1 0W-20. Car should be here in about a month and just doing my homework. I have to deal with German Ford Dealerships here so I'm not too confident taking that route. May ask them anyway and see what they say.

Any other input on 0W-20?

After a bunch of seraching I ended up finding some Royal Purple 5w20 in Canada so I ended up used that. It was the american version to so it was sold in quarts and not liters.

I don't expect it to be a problem. the 5W or 0W applies to Winter conditions. The lower the number, the better it flows in sub zero temps. The 20 is the rate at which it flows at operating temperature. M1 0-20 is what I use. Quaker State has a full synth 5-20 at most Canadian Tire stores.

WalMart down here in Indiana has the Motorcraft Synthetic Blend for $1.92 qt. and the Motorcraft 820 filters for $3.52 ea. Not a bad price for those do it yourself folks.

Your homework should tell you not to put synthetic in until you hit at least 10,000 miles

I couldn't find no brand of 5W20, so I put in Mobile1 5W30 and haven't had a problem.

You can run synthetic as soon as you get it. The old wifes tails of your engine not breaking in or its to slipperey just are not true. Fact is many manufacturers are putting Mobil 1 in the engine day 1.
