To anyone considering the Pypes O/R H-Pipe

Well, I am pretty much finished with all of the installing. The MGW install went like a charm. The JLT was cake! The Bamachips tune on an Xcal 3 went off without a hitch! The Alpine deck install was a piece of pie. Man, I am hungry!!! But, let's talk about the Pypes install real quick.

1. The 4-piece design is not optimal at all. Where they have cut the pipes in half to make them four pieces does not join well. Plus, they send you 1" band clamps to strap them together there. These band clamps basically only work if you have slit the exhaust where you are clamping so it can seal. There is no sealing at these joints with band clamps unless you do some major hacksaw work or weld them.

2. The passenger side down tube was about 2" too long. No matter how I tried it was not going to let me fit the pipes onto the mid-clamps. This wasn't too big of a deal since I just had to cut 2" off the down tube. There was going to be a hanger issue, but after the 2" chop of the pipe the hanger fit just fine, but it was going to just barely fit on the exhaust hanger before the cut.

3. The O2 bungs were not in the right place. They were close, but the O2 sensors would not plug back in because the cables would not reach. I had to disconnect the plugs from where they were attached to the car and slightly reroute them to make them reach and then re-attach the cables to the car. Also not too big of deal, but this should not be an issue.

4. Leak at the drivers side exhaust manifold. No matter how I tried this would not seal up. I tightened, loosened, adjusted, tightened, loosened, adjusted, slammed my head against it, and nothing would work. This was a big deal.

So, my car is now at the exhaust shop getting the joints to the manifolds taken care of and being completely welded together at all the joints. I hope this is some growing pain issues from a new 4-piece layout and maybe they can get the jigs straightened out or whatever because this kit has a lot of problems in it's current state.

Now, about the sound of the car. If you ignore the exhaust leaks and walk to the back it sounds DEAD SEXY!!!! Love it. Pypes O/R H-Pipe + JBA Axle-Backs FTW!!!!!! I will see when I get the car back from my exhaust place if I can get some sound clips and throw them up. Peace....

That sucks. Glad I got mine when they were still doing the two piece design. Install for mine was quick and easy. Glad to hear you got it all working though.

Sound- Is amazing with O/R H and Stingers.

My buddy put a Pypes exhaust on his '64 LeMans about 3 years ago. He said it was a nightmare. Nothing fit together, the system was too short and tech support was lousy, etc.

I'm currently looking into a full system, cats and all. After what I've seen with Pypes, I think I'm going Magnaflow.

When I ordered the Pypes I was not aware that they had gone to a 4-piece design until they showed up at my house. And, I also know that Summit products are just fine, but I try to do business with shops that I trust and not big .com catalog retailers. I have never ordered from Summit and never plan to. Thanks for advice though.

But, I would also look for another source if you want H-Pipes for now and Summit is another source!!!

4 cats? Thats what the Magnaflow tech said.

I want to go shorties into a catted x-pipe into Stingers. The Magnaflow guy said that it wouldn't pass the visual state inspection because their's had 2 cats, while the factory had 4.

Go figure.

My 96 Cobra had a total of 4 cats...2 on each side. For what it's worth. Our cars only have 2 cats total!! 1 each side!

I love Summit, then again, Summit County (where Summit Racing is located) is just 10mins from me.

I love Summit. As long as you know what you want, they're great. They'll beat any other web price w/free shipping.

But if you need that personal touch, you're better off going with someone that can offer customer service after the sale.

Any reason why they went with the 4 piece design.
