Anybody heard of blown up engines in 05/06 GTs running either saleen blower or vortech blower?
I have heard of the other misfortunes running different blowers.
I know it probably is not so much brand specific as it might be tune,
but i'm curious....????

I think the tunes are the main cause. I have heard of some blow up vehicles with the procharger and I know their stuff tends to be very aggressive . Saleen kit I have not heard anything & I can only speak for myself that I have had no issues with my vortech kit at all

I believe the owner of Alternative Auto (Lidio) blew his 05 with a Vortech. But he was basically trying to get as much power possible. There was more info on why but I dont remember. Do a search you might find it.

The brand of supercharger has nothing to do with this. In simple terms they all do the same thing. It will be up to the guy tuning the car, and making sure you have the proper equipment period. So choose the one you like based on the blowers track record (problems ,etc...).

Thanks Mike

Lidio blew his because he upped the boost and didn't run race gas cuz he was in a hurry to get down to Cincinnati to race it. His own fault. Not the blowers.

The connecting rods... down right weak poo and if the tune isnt "perfect" they will be thrown from the crank. Buh bye block.

Good to know... Any idea how much it would cost (parts/labor) to get new rods/pistons put in... A range would be quite helpful... Seems enough engines have been destroyed where it might be a no brainer to get new rods/pistons put in if its like $1500 or less (considering you might have to pay WAY more if you blow your block up)...

I've seen alot of people contemplating the rods/pistons, but...
Anybody invested in this yet?

Lets not forget that this engines also have a cast crank. For my money I would put in a forged crank along with the rods and pistons. I would think you could have it done complete for about $3,000/$3,500 bucks.

yep, might as well do it right the first time, throw in a beefed up crank too when opening up the bottom end.

If I get this second job Im going to start piecing together a new motor and I wont stop until a blower sits on top.

All but one of the cars I have seen let go with a blower were centrifical designs. There are two things to think about here.

1) You have to spin a centrifical to higher RPMs to make peek power and higher RPMs is not a good thing for the weak rods.....

2) The twin screw makes peek hp at a lower RPM, but it also makes more torque at lower RPM which also puts more stress on the rods. Most have a boost bypass valve that can limit this to some extent.

I personally think that most of the blown engines ( not all ) were shooting for north of 450rwhp... ( thats well over 500hp at the crank... )

I decided to stick with the stock 4psi pulley on my Saleen to keep the RWHP in the 350-400rwhp range... I think it gives a little safety margin until I decide to put forged internals in the block....

However, any S/C might eat the engine.... The engine is only as strong as the weakest rod. Powder metal is not exactly the best technology for consistant strength....

good info... i want a supercharger, but i'm adding up all the costs for a reliable ride. The other option might be to wait till ford offers the blower, assuming it will be warrantied if they put it on...

Then there are "other" reasons besides tune/boost as well that would cause failure. don_w's is proof of that.
