Another JBA Shorty Header Question
Another JBA Shorty Header Question
So in anticipation of getting and then installing some JBA Shorty headers.
I have a couple of questions.
First has anyone used locking header bolts for this install?
I heard Ford Racing has some. Does anyone know of this?
And if so where did you get them? Links would be great.
Also i heard you reuse the factory gasket so has anyone had any issue with that method?

I bought a set of graphite gaskets that crush once they are installed and used the header bolts that came with the headers. Torque them down and run the engine for 15 minutes and then re-torque them. No issues with either.
I didn't install the headers I had a friend do it for me. He's a great wrench and the price was right too.

I bought a set of new OEM exhaust gaskets, and supplied them to my installer. Why take a chance for a few bucks? As far as the bolts, my installer used a few of the factory studs, and beyond that, used the JBA supplied bolts.....No issues thus far.....

I've probably already said this elsewhere, but I reused the factory gaskets with no problem. They're metallic, it's not like they tear or anything. I also reused the factory studs..... I did the install about a year ago, and everytime I check them they're still tight. I would think that locking header bolts may be a better fit for longtubes compared to shorties.... or they might fall into the category of "needed them on the older cars, must need them on the new cars too" which isn't always necessarily right. Again, this is just my experience.....

Hey Richard,
I believe you can re-use the factory gaskets with no issues and if it makes you feel better purchase new ones. As far as the bolts go. I chose to get what I understand is the best out there. (Stage 8) Both Larry (Airecare84) and I intalled OBX longtubes at Xmas time. He used the stock header bolts and I went with the Stage 8 locking header bolts. No problems with either set up so far. I think it really comes down to what makes you feel comfortable. I bought my Stage 8 bolts off Ebay for $45 bucks. You have to admit they are pretty.

Scott do you have to use a Allen Head to install and tighten those or does a normal wrench/socket work?
And since you posted that picture i am assuming that is the correct part number for them for my application correct?
EDIT: I hope so becasue i just purchased a set on Ebay for 43.00 Shipped
Thanks Scott

You can accually use both an allen wrench or a hex socket on the Stage 8 headers bolts. Pretty neat option. But I never needed the allen wrench just used the hex socket. $43.00 is a good price. I will warn you they are more trouble to install but you will never have to worry about your header bolts backing off over time!!
Scott
P.S. It's not the bolts that are an issue to install it is the locking rings that can be a pain. And "yes" that is the correct part number to order!!
