Air filter case is loose...
Has anyone noticed if their air filter case---the square black plastic box that the air filter sits in---is rather loose on their car? Mine wobbles a lot when you touch it.
I tightened down the bolt on the right side (as you stand in front of the car) of the filter case, and that helped a bit. But it still seems to have a lot of play in it.
Is it supposed to be real flexible? Or am I missing a bolt underneath, or something like that?

Your correct Mike the box is quite loose .Although I do not have my Mustang yet one of my friends pointed this out when the first mustangs showed up here at the dealership. We checked the 6 and 8 cyl stangs and they were all the same ,from what I can tell there is only one bolt that holds it on to the fender well.

Actually, I feel better knowing that mine is not unique; although they perhaps should have installed 2 anchor bolts.
Thanks for the input. I do feel better overall.

I noticed exactly the same with my car, which surprised me, but it must be to allow for vibration that might break something were it too solidly anchored.
You are correct. There is only 1 bolt that holds it in place. The bolt also incorporates a rubber grommet due to the vibration. If they didn't do this I am sure the mount would crack. There are 2 holes underneath that the housing sits in to help keep it from moving around. At least it is real easy to remove if you ever wanted to.
Missing Air Box Bolt
Got a new K&N replacement filter in the mail, went to install it and I found that my air box was loose, the bolt was missing and the box had come out of the holes in the fender. The top of the box was not installed completely (the clamps were clamped, but the other side wasn't put all the way together). The car only has 1,700 miles and has not been in for the first service, so I think it had to have been delivered this way. With that corrected, it runs way better, it had a mild surge just off idle that is gone and it is much quieter overall at normal throttle. Not sure if it is from the box no longer vibrating against the fender or from the air filter being secured in the box, but there is a huge difference! Also, I can put it in 6th around 40-45 on flat pavement and it runs fine, before it felt like it was lugging and surging below 50.
