Aggressive Tune & Bad Weather Driving

Like many of you who have already purchased (or will in the near future) your CAI system with a more aggressive tune, I am considering purchasing one of the fine systems/tuner/tune that are endorsed in this forum. I live in Wisconsin and drive my 06 GT manual all year, so here is my concern: Would the more responsive/aggressive accelerator that seems quite typical of these tunes adversely affect acceleration/handling in snow/rain, etc? I already have driven through two winters using dedicated 17” rims with winter tires, but with the V8 stock engine and tune. Surprisingly, she handles incredible well in snow and ice with my current winter setup. I keep traction control on, but it is rarely activated, and when it does activate, it’s actually worse because the engine almost shuts down, leaving you nearly stranded in the middle of an icy intersection. Would a CAI with aggressive tune make this situation worse? Please comment on your experiences with the situation described above. I realize it’s 90+ degrees right now, and the last thing you want to think about is poor-weather driving, but this will influence my decision to purchase a CAI/tuner/tune. Thanks for your input.

By the time winter rolls around you'll be used to it. While the throttle mapping is more responsive than stock, it's not THAT different. You'll be fine!

I drive with a C&L CAI and BAMA 93Race tune in the rain all the time and no big deal, at all. And I always deactivate the Traction Control. The very first thing I do after starting my GT is to deactivate the TCS. Like clockwork.

I agree... you're not going to have any problems. Winter is still nearly 6 months away. By then you will know the new power-band very well.

So it does take a bit of time to get used to the tune? It's summer down here which really means it's monsoon season, so pretty much any day @4:30 pm is storm time, not counting things like hurricanes and stuff. I'd rather not have to go out in the rain the first or second day I have the new gear.

I've driven my bamachips 93 octane tune in freezing rain, you get used to it.

Although many of you said that you "get used to it", I would like to know some more specifics. For example, is it more difficult to provide the proper throttle in bad conditions, compared to stock tune? I realize that one would probably get used to it, but if 4-6 months out of the year you have to delicately apply the throttle, that would really take the fun out of driving. To those of you who have driven both stock and an aggressive tune with CAI, how would you compare the driving experience in crappy winter conditions? Do you regret the mods in the winter? Winter can last 5-6 months in Wisconsin! Again thanks for all your opinions.

It feels more like a regular mechanical throttle, if that is what your used to then it is easier to drive.

And yes, I do know winter......

Most of my life I grew up in upstate NY and I know driving in snow. Now I've learned how to drive in this rain down here in TX. Still drive the GT without TCS.

Mechanical is a good way to explain the throttle. I just really had no ramp up time with the new tune. It felt natural right from the start. For me there was no getting used to it it felt comfortable from day 1. No adjustment time necessary here.

If you are concerned about winter driving with the aggressive tune, just remove the CAI and re-install the original tune until the foul weather is over. Tune her up in the spring and away you go... Isn't that the advantage of having a tuner..??

Seems pretty simple to me...

Good point Bobby.............

I wouldn't do that though as I just can't drive the GT stock any longer now that I've crossed over to the "Power" side Rain shine or snow its 93Race tune for me ha
