Aftermarket Gauges 12switched power source?

Just curious for those who have aftermarket gauges, where you tapped into the 12v switched power?

I will be running wires this weekend when it's raining and was curious if anyone had anything close to the apillar to tap into?

thanks jake

I had to run a long wire along the firewall from the driver's side A-Pillar to the interior fuse box on the passenger side. From there I soldered in an "add-a-circuit" from autozone. Slots 5 and 13 are unused and give you switched power. I'm sure you can power the gauges by tapping a wire from under the instrument panel or from the stereo.

I'll try the add-a-circuit route.

my last car had about 6 gauges tapped under the dash and it looked like crap and was always to me a fire hazzard.. hahahaha

I used the RED wire leading to the Brake Position Switch. This switch is ABOVE the Stop Lamp Switch on the brake pedal bracket. I cheated and used a Scotch Lock.

This wire is hot in crank/run as required for the newer Autometer gauges.

Jake the switch that you want to use is light blue and the wires are solid red and light blue/red tracer. use the solid red wire only.
As far as lights on the gages I used the light switch on the car. that way when I turn on my light switch the gage light comes on.sorry I can't remember which wire it is on the light switch. I'll look at my pictures to see if I took one of the light switch wire and let you know.
Hope this helps! thanks to redbullet for his additional info. I can't take all the credit. He was alot of help in finding the solid red wire for the run/crank mood.

I see you installed the Nexus series gages, I was going to ,but I got a full sponsorship on the Cobalt series, if I went with the Nexus series was only going to be partial sponsorship, so I oped to go with the Cobalt series. My DPSS ahift light is the stage 2 like yours. Auto Meter has treated me very well. a very good sponsor to be with.
