Aftermarket cam guys - did you lockout VCT?
Amongst those with aftermarket cams, how many of you have locked the VCT out. Also, has anyone had a cam phaser failure that did not lockout the VCT? Please chime in with what cams/springs you have, and what path you took regarding the VCT.

I had Comp Cam NRS cams installed at Brenspeed's on 2-15-08. The cam VCT is left stock with these cams and not locked out. I think you only need to lock out the VCT on very radical cams.

I have the Comp stage 3 cams and springs. They told me the cam phaser mod was not needed, but I regret not doing it. Ford has had some problems with the cam phasers failing, and adding stiffer springs and bigger cams is seemingly adding to the potential for failure. Livernois and some other notable builders are now locking the VCT out as a matter of procedure now.

I have read on other sites that the stiffer cam springs could or may cause issues with the cam phaser. I was originally going to have Brenspeed do the stage 3 cams but the timing was perfect that the NSR cams came out I went that route. Not only because of the phaser issue but it saved about 1K of install bucks and only gave up maybe 7-10 hp. At the time is seemed like a no-brainer.
