AEM CAI...
Anyone out there using this. It's AEM (Rice) but it's a good price coupled with the Diablo, 30hp vs. 26hp with the C&L and Diablo. I know the HP est. are not very reliable or at the very least very subjective. But the C&L is rated less and $100 more...

Most people on this site use either C&L, JLT or K&N intakes and their results are proven and most seem to be more than happy with them.
As far as AEM goes, of course they are going to advertise gains equal, in this case greater than their competition in order to attract attention.
As far as the AEM intake goes. I think there is a reason that no one uses them, or if they do they choose not to post about it.
My opinion is spend the $100 extra for the C&L or go with the JLT (it's $100 less than the C&L anyways) they're proven and you will be more than happy.

I think it's because AEM is known well for import intakes and no one wants to put "rice" in their Mustang. Personally, I'd use it if others were satisfied with it. I like the fact that it doesn't use any oil and wont foul your MAF sensor, is cheaper, and is shiny .

If you want feedback on this particular product you might try other mustang sites. I don't mean to be rude, but I don't now of anyone here that has that setup, let alone put it on a dyno to see the actual gains over stock. The other CAI's have and they produce, no if's and's or but's about that!
I'm sure the AEM kit add's power but if the fact of having a shinny, non oil air filter, weighs heavier than the performance aspect of a CAI, isn't that "rice"

I think it's because the #'s have not been proven, not because AEM makes it. I'm sure if this CAI was producing legit #'s over the competition there would be a lot more hype about it.

What did I start? I just asked if anyone had any info. I'm 99% sure I'm going with the JLT. But what can I say, I'm a shopper and want to look at all my options. I really don't care what name it has on it, I look for bang for the buck/ the whole package. After all, stickers peal off...
Since I'm building my GT for Show and Go, I want a little bling. Given black plastic or polished alum. I'll take the polished alum.
But thanks for all the comments and opinions, some of which are pretty deeply rooted it appears.....

Yah, personally I'd rather see a little shiny under the hood to offset the ugly camcovers and plastic intake, etc. Let's face it - outside of the fact that there's a nice V8 under the hood, they didn't do much in terms of appearance. It'd be nice if the K&N had a version of the intake that wasn't plastic.

That's quite a bold statement considering that the numbers aren't proven. Before you go off defining the term "rice", you should consider not labeling the AEM kit as such before you here numbers that show there are no performance gains. Kind of an asshat move to throw a company, which you have NO idea about, under the bus without proof to the contrary. Just my .02

Who pee'd in your cereal?
you completely misunderstood my post.
I suggest you calm down and re-read it
BTW this topic is in regards to AEM's V8 applicataion

Im pretty sure the v8 comment was in regardes to the comparison to the v6 model. Save the sarcasm, please.
Im also pretty sure their numbers are way over inflated. There have been many many tests done and C&L/JLT always come out number one in performance. I dont see how a kit would make more power than either of these and not recieve due credit for it. Just my 2cents though.

Obviously the person you were referring doesn't have "shiny" at the top of their list, therefore your argument will fall on deaf ears since SOME people might want to spruce up the engine bay with a little shine (as posted by someone else). God forbid that it be deemed "rice" by you because it is shiny. Not to mention, it would have to have no performance gain to fit the general term of "rice."

Read the 4th post, "shinny" was one of the three aspects the guy liked about it. Do you know what the other two are?
Also, I didn't label this CAI rice, the guy who started this topic did. (read the 1st post).
I introduced the thought that maybe sacrificing performance gains for looks, when buying a performance mod, might be considered "rice". (key word in this one is PERFORMANCE)
In the future you should read the entire thread before you post. That way you'll have an idea as to what's going on.
I had a AEM V2 Intake on my 2003 Accord Coupe V6 6-spd and it was the best intake I've experienced. The sound was great and the power gains were pretty nice. About a 17HP gain, I can't remember the torque though.
OK, I keep searching on this intake, but have found nothing, so I just sent this email to RPMOutlet.com:
Hello,
I and many others from www.themustangsource.com would like to know if you have any more information about the new AEM intake (part #AEM21-8112DP) that you are offering on your website. I searched on the web as well as the AEM’s website, but found little information. The rpmoutlet.com website claims 16+ horsepower for the intake alone, yet says the unit does not require a tune (similar to the K&N intake). If this is true, this intake is a good alternative to the K&N, as it makes more power (as advertised) without a tune. However, you also bundle it with a Diablosport Predator and claim 30.0 RWHP and 28.0 FT/LBS. It does not look like the Diablosport comes with a custom tune for the AEM, so how are these numbers derived? Does this intake truly require no tuning, and are there any dyno charts or references of the advertised power gains?
I'll post if I hear back from them.

I can't imagine a CAI not needing a tune. That seems like it would be common sense.

If the MAF size is the same as stock then it dosen't need tune.
Of course greater gains will be had with a tune.
Here's the answer I received this morning from RPMOutlet:
Bryan,
We have tested the NEW AEM Brutforce DryFlow Air System on a 100% stock 05GT and came up with an average of 16 hp, and no long term or short term check engine lights. We added the DiabloSport predator using only the standard DiabloSport Performance tune for 91+ octane and came up with an average of 33+hp. We opted to advertise a lower number for a correction factor dependent on fuel quality. Hope this helps answer your questions.
