Achieving the GT500KR Stance - Wheel Size/Offset/Backspacing

I read several comments soon after the KR was posted on these forums about how everyone liked the stance it had at the show. I'm sure others, besides myself, are interested in achieving a similar stance with their own stangs. I've been reading up and researching whenever possible, but I'm still not very knowledgeable compared to most everyone here. On that note, I created this thread in hopes to have a place for myself or anyone else to receive insight and knowledge from those who do know about such things and who are perhaps even experts.

In order to achieve the stance on the GT500KR shown in the below pictures or very close on an otherwise stock GT, what specifications would be needed as far as offset and backspacing? Obviously the KR is overall lower than a stock GT, so also how much lower is it? I.E. how much would a GT need to be lowered.

Since everyone's stang might have different sized wheels/tires, maybe we can get different answers based on different combinations of that.

With 20X10 rear wheels what would be the best offset, backspacing, and tire size to achieve the previously mentioned stance?
What about 20X8.5 front?
19?
18?
Etc...

Thanks to anyone who has the time and knowledge to answer and hopefully this will help anyone interested in achieving this stance or close to it.

Michael

The show cars typically sit a little lower than production cars as well. So the specs on the production GT500KR might be different from the specs on the show piece in the pictures. My guess would be FRPP springs to give you the ride height.

Yeah, the show car is obviously something special as they always are. With a set of staggered 20's, 20X10 rear/20X8.5 front, what backspacing and offset would be appropriate? Also what tire size would be optimal?

Unsure on backspacing but the tires on the rear look like at least 285s

And the car seems to sit lower than any car Ive seen with the FRPP Handling package, but it could just be the 20s.

not to mention the KR will have 18"s and probably sit at the standard GT500 height.

I have 19x10s on my GT, and it is flush like that. The offset of my rear wheels in 45mm. I have 19x9s on the front and the offset you want with a 9" rim is 35mm. My car doesn't sit that low as I didn't want it to, but it has a very nice stance with H&R springs and rides great with Bilstein shocks and struts. I agree with others - the FRPP suspension will get you a drop like that, or close. I also doubt the factory car will sit as low as the show car.

I was under the impression the FRPP Suspension only dropped the car about 1.5" all the way around...I would have to say that looks like 2.0+ not to mention the 20s take away some of the 'empty space' in the fenderwell so it looks lower

So would a +32mm offset be good for 20X8.5 front wheels? And a +40mm offset for 20X10 rear? Then throw on some suspension and get it dropped 1-1.5 all around. All that sound about right to get a nice aggressive stance and also having nice handling?

Do you have some wheels in mind that have those offsets? You will be in the ballpark with those numbers. What tire sizes do you have in mind? I have 295s and 275s on mine with no rubbing anywhere.

I've got Foose Nitrous in mind as of right now. Tire sizes I hadn't really come up with yet. What tire sizes would work well? Probably around 285 for the rear, but not sure?

Yeah, 285s and 255s would be good depending on the aspect ratio to get the proper overall diameter. I'm not as familiar with the 20" tire sizes but there are probably more choices than 19s (at ~27.1" diameter). Check and see what Foose puts on his cars or maybe someone with those wheels or similar will chime in - they're pretty popular.

Thanks Randyb. I appreciate it. Anyone with the Foose wheels in this size have any input? Does the 32 mm offset sound good for the front 20X8.5 and a 255 tire size? What about the 40 mm offset for the 20X10 rear with 285s? Would like some input from people who have these wheels or have had experience with Foose wheels or something similar in size. Thanks.

What about a good place to purchase wheels? Anyone have a favorite or a good place to purchase them from?
