ABS Brakes and after-market Rear Diffs
I've heard the stock rear diffs on the S197 Mustangs equipped with anti-lock brakes have a toothed rim around the circumference of the 'spindle' portion of the rear differential. I have not taken apart my rear axle (YET!
) so I cannot confirm this. The purpose for the toothed rim is to allow the ABS to work. I'm seeking to upgrade my rear axle to a Detroit TrueTrac unit. However, every Detroit TrueTrac I have seen the 'Spindle' on the axle has a smooth circumference, not toothed.

- Has anyone who has swapped out the rear end for Auburn/Ford Racing/Detroit rear axle with a Smooth/untoothed spindle noticed that their ABS no longer works?

The ABS exciter rings are pressed onto the axles. You can change the differential carrier without affecting the ABS brakes. I put an Eaton posi in mine.
