6cyl springs in an 8cyl
6cyl springs in an 8cyl
Anyone notice that the stock 6cyl cars are lower and more even statured than the 4.6v8's? I wonder if putting 6cyl springs in rear of the Gt would give you a lower rear stance with a better ride? Anybody want to chime in on this?
The V6 coupe rear spring rate is the same as the GT Coupe (both 142lbs/inch).
V6 front springs are softer than the GT coupe front springs (v6:114 lbs/inch v8:136lbs/inch) .
GT convertibles have the V6 front spring rate (114 lbs/inch), but have a GT front sway bar and smaller rear sway bar diameter. The V8 engine is not much heavier than the V6 (V6 : 405 lbs, V8 : 421 lbs)
The convertibles (both V6 and GT) share the same softer rear spring rate (122lbs/inch). reference for the numbers is here.
2005 and 2006 are the same, but the specs may have changed for 2007.
I love how everybody buys into what the aftermarket companies tell them hook, line, and sinker. "Don't think or research anything for yourself! Just buy our stuff! Our parts are the only way to do it correctly!"

Good info John!.....Sounds like to me the only difference one might notice is possibly a little more body roll in hard cornering!....... A little little softer rate in front might alleviate some of the hard pounding noticed from road bumps and such? ........Now I wonder how much drop you would get with V6 springs on the GT?
Here's question for GT convertible owners : how's the ride with your stock springs(since they have the same front spring rate as V6s), and do GT verts have a lower ride height than GT coupes?

Hey Scott,
How much do you weigh??
I weigh in at 215 and can set the front of my vert down nice and low. I don't need aftermarket springs to get that low ride stance. BTW, I would change your name from STD to say... Scott unless you enjoy being known as some some kind of "Sexually Transmitted Diease" ...
you old fart! Scott

If ride comfort is a priority, then v6/convertible front springs on a GT Coupe might be the ticket.

Hey John,
Your facts about the spring rates between verts and coupes is interesting. I always thought my vert looked like it sat lower than coupes ( without my chub azz in it) and thats is why I never felt I needed to lower it. Here's a pic.

Well John, from the photo's 70MACH1OWNER provided and others I've looked at the verts do have a lower ride hight and what looks to be less rake! PS: I see you live Oregon! I lived in the Beaverton and SE Portland ( Mt.Tabor) area for eight years before moving back to the land of Corn and Soybean!......I do miss the Pacific Northwest!!!
What a small world... I used to live on SE Hawthorne not far from Mt. Tabor years ago and I currently live just west of Beaverton
