My 07 Explorer has a 6 speed tranny. It's mounted to virtually the same engine. It has the 4.6L........same as out GT's. Wonder if it would work??????????????????????????

wow! that is very interesting to say the least!!!

can you get the Gear ratios of 1st to 6th gear?

imagine a 6 speed auto stang...we can do 4.10 rear easily now and still great gas mileage...

This is REALLY interesting. Gearvendors can put a DOUBLE Overdrive gear to allow our cars to drive really great on highways. amazing!

they dont have the current mustang 5 speed auto on the list but im sure they can do it.

http://www.gearvendors.com/hrford4s.html

they have the double overdrive now for the 5R110W 5-Speed Automatic tranny...

Anything can be swapped if you do enough research in order to fully understand what you are doing.
I would not even consider trying to adapt the factory controller. As others have stated, trying to work with your existing controller or trying to adapt the controller that was used in the donor vehicle would be a nightmare.
There are some very good aftermarket automatic transmission controllers that the street rod people like to use.
Try these people:

I see in their product information that they have the 5R55 Ford 5 speed auto listed. It was not there a few months ago so chances are someone there has considered the six speed units that now exits.
It would be worth contacting them.

Good luck!
