410's

Whats the rpm difference between 410's and stock. also is a tune needed ?? Thanks

If you have a stick then it is 4.10 / 3.55 = 1.155 or about a 15% increase in rpm at any given mph.
-or-
if you have an auto then it is 4.10 / 3.31 = 1.239 or about 24% increase in rpm at any given mph.
and with a Predator you can correct the speedometer.

If I am not mistaken, Ford racing makes a recalibration device for around $90.00. Tuner is expensive but worth it. Not sure how you want your set up to be, but thought I would throw that out there.

your local ford dealer should be able to adjust the speedo calibration for you if you don't feel like spending the $400 for a tuner.

Here you go...
That chart is right on. I was taking my salesman out for a romp today to show him the difference between stock gearing and 4:10's and 6000 rpms was 90 mph in 3rd. He liked it!

Not on the '05's and '06's. They cannot be adjusted for gear ratio changes or tire sizes due to emissions certifications. You have to use a tuner. On other Fords this was possible, but not on the new cars.

By comparison, the 3.55 stock gears turn out about 100 MPH in 3rd at redline, maybe a little more. Gears are about the best SOTP bang for the buck there is. But dangit, I drive too many highway miles for 4.10's, and I don't think going to 3.73's would be worth the $$.
Also, if you do go to 4.10's, plan to get some tires with more grip or you'll lose time spinning at launch, even more so if you get a tune.

4.10s and even 4.30s are not bad on the highway..... I think I get better mileage with them becuase I shift to 4th less.... I drive about 60 freeway miles at 75-80 a day..... 5 days a week, and I have 4.30s and I love it.

you have me confused now. how does the final gear ratio affect emissions?

That chart is pretty close. What is the tire diameter of the stock tire? With 3.55 gears I hit the 6250 redline at 105 mph not 108. I always hit redline on 3rd at the last few 200 feet of the 1/4 mile

The stock tire is 27.18" (or thereabouts). And a tire with some wear will have a smaller diameter than a brand new tire. Let's assume there is 1/4" of tire tread wear. Plug in 26.68" for the diameter, and you'll get 105.8mph
Also, the top speed measured in the quarter-mile is an average over the last 60 feet, so in reality the actual speed at the stripe is slightly higher than the recorded top speed. And keep in mind that the chart is theoretical... drag and gravity will tend to drive the numbers down at higher speeds (I haven't seen anyone go 200mph in one of these yet).

It affects emissions because the final gear ratio affects what RPM's the engine is at for a given speed. Since the latest emissions tests are on dynamometers and are tested at certain speeds (15 and 30 MPH), the emissions would be affected (albeit slightly). The cars were only certified for two ratios, the manuals and automatics. Since Ford can't guarantee emissions at other ratios, they won't let you change it anymore.
