I just got a set of FRPP 4.10's put in yesterday and I love how hard it pulls now. I almost wish I would have went for the 4.30's. But they do pull hard and I am glad that I got them. This mod was well worth the money!
I had mine installed a few weeks ago. I know im not the first, but last night was the first time I was able to chirp my tires into 3rd gear
, basicly the first time I acually got on it since the install. I was surprised I could do it condsidering my tall rear tires.
Congrats on the install. I am going to get some 4.10's after the holidays but I will need some drag radials to go with them. My auto '07 has always spun the tires hard in 1st and chirped 2nd and 3rd before I installed any mods. After Dougs race tune and CAI 2nd and 3rd can get down rite hairy in cooler weather. For an auto with 3.31's the quickness of the gear changes is quite nice. 4.10's will be awesome. Where did you buy your gears?
4:10's are the perfect gear for the S197 5 speed manual because 5th is almost like an overdrive. 70 MPH is 2400 RPM's and what's nice is when you want to pass just press down on the gas pedal because you have lots of power being higher in the RPM band. I had 4:10's and had to replace them because of poor installation. DON"T CHEAP OUT ON THE INSTALL. GET SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING!
hey guys yeah I got my stuff from americanmuscle.com . I haven't got on the interstate yet. But it gets up to 100 on the back roads pretty quick now. Like someone said 5th gear feels so much better and i am not consantly changing gears when slow cars get in front of me. Usually 5th has enough power to keep me moving.
My gas mileage went down about 2 mpg after I had the 4.10's put in but since I added the Spydershaft it is going back up. I+ mpg so far but that tank includes the dyno tune and some high speed driving to check the new driveshaft for vibration. I had Ford do the install so I knew it was done right. I also added Royal Purple 75w140 when they did the install.
As others have written, the gears really give you that added pop in 4th and 5th gear. A great mod for those of us that don't have a S/C.

I've had it up to 90 and didn't have any vibrations. Lot of traffic in the DC area so I haven't been able to safely go any faster. 90 is all I need since I don't plan on racing the car.
RKNMACH, you said you had the dealer install your 4.10 gears? How much did they charge you???
I paid $485 for the install - I provided all of the parts and the RP gear oil. They had to replace a bearing and there's always a charge for shop supplies. They did a great job and I'm satisfied with the results.

Maybe I'm missing something here. The install is on average 90 minutes and it cost you $485? That's quite a labor rate!!!
